Yep, 136,720, as of today.

40,695 who showed up to the polls (though some cast votes for a 3rd candidate or nobody for mayor), divided by 136,720 registered voters. 29.77% voter turnout. A lot of people bitch and moan about how nothing ever changes in this city, well I'm guessing at least 70.23% of those bitchers and moaners don't show up to vote.

Wow - almost as many indifferent voters couldn't be bothered to register their protest and vote Matsikoudis as those who voted for him. Says more about Matsikoudis than it does Fulop.

Said another way - Fulop beat Matsikoudis AND the "didn't vote" by more than 2:1. That's a resounding win.

It may be "pathetic", but statistically when 1/3 of eligible voters cast a ballot with that margin of victory, it is more than satisfactory from a statistical standpoint. That is, with 100% participation, the results would be the same.

Turnout in local elections in Jersey City is still downright pitiful. The city has a population of 260,000. The total number of people who voted in the citywide mayoral election was 35,425, a miserable 35% turnout. The fact is NO mayor in the most recent elections in my memory has ever gotten more than about 30% of the vote from eligible voter pool. It's really sad.

100,000 is not too high - if memory serves (and there hasn't been a voter roll cleanup in the past couple of years) the number of registered voters is around 130,000. I completely agree that turnout is pathetic.

I also have footage of the mayor on the campaign trail yesterday.

I think that's the Akil/Sullivan tape they were trying to keep from him.....

Actually, Yvonne - you weren't wrong. You're forgetting the close to 4,000 Walker votes and 500 for the other guy who's name escapes me. Turnout was better in 2013 and I was really surprised by that - got to wondering why.

Early turnout yesterday was very strong. Anecdotally, it was as strong or stronger downtown through the morning as it was in 2013. Weather could have been a factor - it was in the low 70s and sunny on the 2013 election day. Yesterday turned really crappy in the afternoon (and cold.) Also - sunset was 8:04 in 2013, compared to 4:45 yesterday.

An uncompetitive governor's race and mayor's race probably also contributed - both sides drove high turnout in the mayor's race in 2013. In wards that had hotly contested council races, I think turnout will end up being comparable but I'll have to check.

Does anyone think that 100,000 eligible voters is too high a number? Reduce it to 70,000, and turnout is still barely above 50%. Still pathetic but then at least it is on par with the turnout rates for your typical presidential election in this country.

I think Menendez's chances for acquittal improved when one juror asked the judge after weeks of testimony and the closing statements the following question.

Yvonne quite clearly can't handle the near unanimous rejection of her candidates and her now diminished stature in JC politics from last night, so she is having a gigantic meltdown. Yvonne cannot accept certain truths that the city has changed, as well as its citizens and is not going back to its "glory days" of 1985.

Ah, of course here comes the revisionist history and rationalization from Yvonne. Just days ago the Fulop people were running terrified. If only the "real voters" of Jersey City (aka just herself and the board members of each neighborhood association) had their pick, Fulop would have lost in a landslide. How dare those "other" voters and evil millennials from NYC that have the nerve to vote for governor should also feel they can vote for mayor of the city they happen to live in.

Poor Yvonne. The anti-Boggianno vote was much greater than his vote total last night and he could still lose. The steel beams of 99 Hudson would be coming down this very morning and it could be back to a beautiful parking lot by next week if only the interlopers didn't stand in her way of paying $0 in taxes and having unlimited free parking just for herself.

LOL WUT!?

You have become increasingly unhinged. Fulop's victory was a landslide unlike any seen in a LONG time. Your nonsense about going to court on a futile, quixotic attempt to try and block the elections from being moved was laughable, and sad. You wasted OUR money by pressing a case that flew against the wishes of the majority. Your constant railing about nonsense (like yesterday's rambling about being unable to read the ballot) are distractions welcomed by no one.

The public has spoken, and their voice was clear: good bye to the nonsense and corruption of the Healy years, and those that came before him, and time to get on with the job of moving JC forward to a better future. Over time, people like you will either move away, or slowly pass away, leaving this city free to achieve its full potential. Until then, we will continue to vote for progress and slowly chip away at your antics and nonsense.

Jersey City may have less voters than you think due to all the immigrants and expats who are non-citizens.

I'm glad that Fulop won, but the fact that a grand total of only 35,000 people voted in a city with a population of 260,000+ is just downright pitiful. I realize that not all of the 260,000 people in the city are of voting age, and there may be some convicted felons who can't vote either, but there has to be, at the barest of minimums, 100,000 people who are eligible to vote.

I was also totally in favor of Fulop's push to move all the elections to November, instead of being split between May and November, because I thought that would help increase overall turnout. But it hasn't.

On another note, I too have received my sample ballot in the mail AFTER the election occurred on multiple occasions (not this one). I don't if the Board of Elections or the crappy post office we have is to blame for that one, but that is a shame too.

Interesting I think Rich was against the original election move referendum because it would also eliminate runoffs. Gee he would have won tonight if it passed. (he should have flipped on it and voted YES or at least asked Yun how to vote on it)

- Rekha Nandwani .....876 .....23.17%
- John Hanussak .....1,027..... 27.17%
- Richard Boggiano..... 1,632 .....43.17%

.

The fact an incumbent couldn't get a solid majority is a bad news for him. Another sign that the city is changing and the Yvonne/NIMBY demographic is quickly losing clout.
