. There are always tons of people trick and treating around Hamilton Park. I think it is becoming dangerous because of the heavy foot traffic and the cars picking up and dropping off kids. van Vorst park is more civilized with less traffic.

Any idea if the trick or treating is any better in that area than Bloomfield and Garden on the Northside of Hoboken? I been taking my daughter there the last few years but I'm willing to change it up if it is about the same or better. Would be cool to do it in Downtown since the Dentist office on Newark ave is planning to give money for unwanted candy to the kids. Would be a win win for her, she can keep the candy she likes and get a little cash too for candy she wouldn't have eaten anyway. Any other good spots Downtown?

I noticed door to door trick or treating hasn't been the same after 9-11. Majority of kids stick to Malls and main avenues now. I like door to door better since that is what I did when I was young.

Since we opened I've always been outside my shop on Monmouth St and we get hundreds of children every year. I think last year I gave away 800-1,000 pieces of candy, giving two to each kid. So that's 400-500 kids. A part of it is that parents from other neighborhoods seem to drive their kids downtown as it's a safer neighborhood and more likely to have candy.

As has been said, you'll have tons of kids if you hang out on your stoop. If you sit inside waiting for the doorbell you'll either not have anyone ringing, or have so many kids ringing that you'll want to sit on the stoop anyway.

Do yourself a favor and head over to Coles Street between Pavonia and 9th St. They close the street to cars and almost all the houses are well decorated and are giving out candy. Mid to late afternoon and into the evening.

Trick or Treaters typically don't ring random doorbells, as buildings have numerous apartments in them and they can't be allowed in to roam inside. If you sit on the stoop at 5pm I imagine you'll get passers by.

I lived on Monmouth Street and never had more than a handful or people every Halloween.

You can sign up on NextDoor if you are a house that is giving out candy on Halloween

Unless something has changed, Trick or Treating usually happens on the 31st in the early evening (like 5pm, give or take).

What's the scoop with Trick R Treaters in the Hamilton Park area? I'd love to sit out on my stoop with candy, but do most families go out this weekend--presumably Saturday evening--or do they wait to go out until Tuesday the 31st?
