i think fulop and his team could learn something from hoboken in terms of pushing back against developers and getting better development deals for the city. i'm all in favor of smart, dense development but some of those behemoths they are building downtown clearly are out of character with their surroundings.

Here's the wikipedia article on inflation in case anyone wonders why Yvonne's water bill didn't stay the same from 1980-2017

I did mention I had a leak, once that leak was fixed, the water bill dropped even though the rates went up. As I said before, water is a backdoor tax no one talks about. I was paying around $77.00 per quarter after I had the leak fixed.

Did you know, Ms. Balcer, that movies used to cost .05 and you'd get a double feature? My Thor tickets cost me $20 apiece! This is a Fulop backdoor secret tax plan on Avengers.

Ridiculous, I am paying for Suez profits that did not exist in the 1980s. Did the Water Department run efficiently, no. Not everyone got a bill. BUT if you had a problem with a bill that was incorrect, they fixed it and you did not have to leave JC to go to their office. Water is a backwater tax in which Fulop grabbed overpayments for his budget so he can say he did not raise taxes. Fulop took $31.5 million that belongs to the water rate users.

Yvonne's $500 water bill would actually be $1,573.87 in 2017 dollars

I think this pretty much proves Yvonne is nothing more than a money grubbing b**ch. Every other city resident could suffer and she wouldn't care a damn bit if it meant she could pay $1,000 less in property tax in a year. What a disgusting human being you are. I truly hope the reval triples your taxes and you're forced to move to a place that culturally suits you better like
Alabama or Mississippi.

Notice that all her posts are about herself and what she used to be able to do and wants to do. She doesn't care about her community, she cares only about herself and can only view the world through her narrow, selfish lense.

Mr. Two Poops makes a really valuable point here. I am super sorry that whoever lived here had to move somewhere else.

People did not lose their homes to tax liens as they do today. On the current tax bill, the city (Mayor Fulop) tells taxpayers if you do not pay your current taxes or water it will be sold as liens as of December of this year. Later, his developer's friends buy these liens and kick the current owners out of the door.

This person is obviously super-psyched Yvonne wasn't paying more than $500 in water per year

I love how people are acting like anyone that lived here 20 years ago is somehow magically able to afford to continue living here through all the increasing rent and housing costs and enjoying all the new things JC has to offer. That dude probably just got priced out to a different shitty neighborhood.

If only everyone in the 80s and 90s had realized the kind of dystopian nightmare the Jersey City waterfront would become once we let people invest there! Let's definitely commit to going back to the good old days ASAP!

PS- back in the day cars were dumped in the water all along the waterfront they were ?insurance jobs?. When they were cleaning up for LSP they found a ton of them. (no bodies just cars)

Let's just go right back to when Downtown Jersey City was truly great. We can un-build all the buildings! Get rid of all the restaurants! Invite everyone who used to live there to move back in! Only then can we make Jersey City great again!

Good times hanging around Colgates.....
