It would be amazing if they made the ferry's free. But who's going to pay for it? Who's going to provide the subsidy... Yvonne? There is a belief in Jersey City that only "free" parking is allowed to be subsidized.

For all of the ills of the PATH train is does transport nearly 300,000 people everyday and is probably the most efficient transportation system in the region given the volume of people it moves. i would rather see any available funding for subsidy be given to PATH to run more trains in offpeak periods. It can be two in the morning and the trains are as packed as during rush hour because they only run every 35 min. The Staten Island railroad does better than that and they carry a fraction of the population of PATH.

Took the Harborside ferry to WFC for the first time this morning. Arrived at the dock at 8.40am and just missed one departing; it returned at 8.49. They are cross-honoring Paulus Hook tickets.

Only 6 passengers boarded. It was a stunning morning for it. Sat up on the deck in the sunshine listening to music with no one around me. It was sheer bliss compared to the PATH every-man-for-himself hellscape at Grove Street. Arrived at work in a good mood for the first time in a long time.

Although not cheap (10 tickets that can be used anytime on weekdays for $56.50) I think its manageable if combined with talking the PATH home. The evening commute back from WTC is far less unpleasant than the AM free-for-all.

Probably less of an option during the winter snows and rain, but as of right now, I think I am sold.

I wish that this new ferry went to Pier 11/Wall Street.

I could be wrong but the service to WTC from that location seems a little silly since the PATH is right there. Maybe it is more for those not wanting to deal with the crowds on the PATH.

I am hoping that eventually the service expands to non-rush hour service and also weekends.

Jersey City getting fourth ferry terminal

Jersey City is getting a fourth commuter ferry.

Mayor Steven Fulop, NY Waterway President and Founder Arthur E. Imperatore, Mack-Cali Realty CEO Michael J. DeMarco and Roseland Chairman Marshall B. Tycher yesterday announced a new commuter ferry terminal at Harborside that will open on Monday, Oct. 2.

The Harborside terminal Downtown will make daily trips to the West 39th Street Ferry Terminal in midtown Manhattan and to the Brookfield Place/Battery Park City terminal in Lower Manhattan.

The new terminal is at 210 Hudson St., and is close to the Hudson-Bergen Light Rail, the PATH at Exchange Place and NJ TRANSIT buses on routes 80 and 82.
