When the state of NJ turned 350 years old, there were articles about changing the NJ flag, yes it is ugly. Maybe Mississippi should start a campaign against the NJ flag.

I'm not a fan of the Confederate flag, but I'm even more so not a fan of censorship. Replacing the official flag of Mississippi with some alternate version is a gross example of censorship of reality. You should strive to change the world you live in by making real efforts, not by closing your eyes, cupping your hands over your ears and screaming "la la la I can't see you!"

Grow up.

Painfully technical indeed.

This issue is limited to the progressive thin skinned pussies who feel threatened by what a state flag looks like or represents to them.

Wrong. They had always been there. They were just brought back after the Sandy damage.

Deal with it. No state gets to tell another state what flag to use. A state flag has meaning and significance to its citizens. In time, they [the people of Mississippi] may choose to alter their flag. That day has not yet arrived.

WRONG. Liberty State Park is NOT a NATIONAL park. It is a STATE park.

Quoting because this is the correct answer.

Also, just to be painfully technical, Mississippi's flag is essentially a combination of the first and second confederate national flags. Georgia's current state flag is based on the first confederate national flag. Alabama's is based on confederate battle flags. So this is an issue that spreads beyond just Mississippi.

Being the most diverse city on earth wouldn't seem appropriate to have a "redneck" flag to promote our diversity ? After all if there were no Rednecks or only Rednecks we wouldn't be diverse. We're only diverse if we stand out...not blend in. So get you portfolio in order please.

Great... no surprise here. Did not see where they had "another version' like you asked for... should we just say Mississippi does not exist and call it the day?

Get your facts straight - the flags were there in the past along the south end of the park. It's not the Confederate flag, it's the flag of the state of Mississippi - it can't be both.

Stop trying to make something out of nothing and trying to re-write history. It is what it is. If you don't like the US, there are over 10,000 miles of boarder where you can gladly leave the Union. Try North Korea, China, Iran or Russia for starters and see how you like it.
