So did you really buy the property? And is Biki the one who turned you on to it? Ah, the perils of advice-seeking on JC list : )

I made a reasonable ALL cash offer with a closing in 2 weeks.

1500 sq foot is what y'all should be looking for as well.

Thanks everyone for the insight.

Looks like the listing is already gone!

That corner of Duncan is the most desirable area of McGinley Square, especially if you're looking to commute. The section is really quiet, with mostly seniors, new families, and commuters. The walk to JSQ is about 15min brisk walk, either through JFK-VanReipen, or Bergen. Mornings are lively because of the commuters, and students, you shouldn't have a problem running to the park using JFK. Also, if you're use to being in an urban environment, then running down Duncan to the Park is also fine.
That area is a gem, seems the locals want to keep it a secret.

That area is fine and on the upswing.

Good building with a large space - the prewar to the immediate right side is a stellar art deco designed building inside as I had immeadiate family who lived there years back and gave up their apartment back before that area got hot.

The Hauge is also right across the way on Kennedy. Blvd.

Only drawback is being on the 2nd floor and you'll pray the folks
above don't have kids or stomp around often.

Good Luck

My husband and I are looking at buying an apartment at 53 Duncan and we're wondering how safe the area is.

Specifically, I'm wondering how safe the walk to/from the JSQ PATH is, since my husband will be commuting to Manhattan. I'm also wondering about running in the area. Lincoln Park looks close on a map; is this park safe for runners in the morning?

I know the area is up and coming, but my biggest concern is safety, specifically the recent nearby shootings.

This is listing if anyone is interested: 53 Duncan Apt 26

Thanks

The area is very safe, I walk from down on Duncan between Westside and 1 almost everyday to JSQ for the past 2 1/2 years after moving from downtown. My little section had more to deal with than any part of Duncan east of me. I have worked effortlessly with the police and the city to help positively change things here, and I must say the ball has begun rolling.
