A Jersey City teen who a witness said was carrying a handgun was arrested after leading police on a brief chase, authorities said.

Ralph Jamal Green, 18, was charged with unlawful possession of a weapon, resisting arrest and obstruction of a governmental function after he was apprehended on East Street at 12:35 p.m. Thursday, a Jersey City police report said.

After his arrest, police searched for the handgun, but did not find one.

Police said Green and two others he was with caught their attention at Chestnut and Newark avenues, outside Dickinson High School, when it appeared a group of students were running from them.

Believing the three teens were involved in a street fight, police followed them to the area of the Hudson County Administration Building, the police report said. A construction worker there told police that one the three, later identified as Green, had a handgun in his sweater.
