"The statement ? and a response from Norcross calling Fulop's statement "unhinged" and claiming he recently "begged" for Norcross's support for a gubernatorial run ? marks a rare public surfacing of the type of political disputes usually kept behind closed doors."

Not surprised to hear about the begging for support. Norcross was one of the first meetings Fulop took in city hall upon becoming mayor - part of the run-up to the contract for George's brother Phil. It was kind of embarrassing, actually - Steve was kind of giddy, showing Norcross around city hall like a kid eager to show dad his art projects at back to school night.

Fulop already played out his contrarian schtick as Councilman.

He said many great things when running for mayor, promising to be a reformer (like the implied promises he makes here), yet when he took office, it was simply more of the same.

You fooled me once Fulop, but you won't fool me again.

Sweeney: The Mayor of Jersey City Should Worry About Jersey City

HACKENSACK – The fact that Jersey City and Atlantic City are at opposite ends of the state didn’t stop Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop from sharing his two cents on the looming crisis. Earlier today, Fulop criticized the alliance between Senate President Steve Sweeney, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie and South Jersey Democratic leader George Norcross.

According to Sweeney, that criticism was out of bounds.

“I think the mayor of Jersey City should probably focus on Jersey City, he has enough problems there,” Sweeney said. “It is unfortunate that people inject politics into a serious situation. I live next door to Atlantic City. I am gravely concerned about its finances. Some people get engaged to score political points.”

For Sweeney, Fulop’s recent comments hearken back to the mayor’s calls for a public debate on the merits of casino expansion into the northern part of the state. Since that challenge, Fulop has reversed his stance on northern expansion.

“He was willing to debate me publicly on casino gaming and the attributes and why it is go great for north Jersey and then he does a tour of Atlantic City,” Sweeney said. “He doesn’t really know what Atlantic City looks like which is remarkable since he spends time in Atlantic City like a lot of elected officials do every single year during the League of Municipalities. This is a legislative role and he really doesn’t play any role in it other than to try to score political points.”

It's a vast Republican/Democrat, north and south New Jersey conspiracy against Fulop? That sounds about as bi-partisan as you can get. What's next, they're against him because he's Jewish?

With acrimony growing over Atlantic City’s financial situation and a state takeover plan, Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop on Tuesday aimed a scathing statement not only at Gov. Chris Christie, with whom he’s been fighting, but at George Norcross, the most powerful unelected Democrat in the state.

“I know people will say that what I am about to express will hurt me in a potential gubernatorial race — I don’t care,” said Fulop, a likely Democratic candidate for governor in 2017. “Also, I know that people will say that Christie and Norcross will use, as they have done in the past, government entities and law enforcement in Trenton to intimidate me — however, the truth is the truth.”

Lot's of Drama it seems : "I don?t have much else to say about the Mayor Fulop's release," he added. "My father always told me never to interrupt someone making a fool out of themselves ? but it is important to note that the Mayor did not always have a negative impression of me. He has repeatedly sought my advice and support, including just a few months ago when he traveled 2 hours to my office in South Jersey and begged for my support for Governor. I respectfully declined, but perhaps that rejection is behind today?s unhinged statement.? Fulop did not deny meeting with Norcross, but said he did not seek his support "I've met with him plenty of times but not about what he says,? Fulop said on Twitter. "He has actually come [to Jersey City and been in my conference room].

It's almost like Fulop is guilty of something, so he's trying to obstruct the issue by releasing that incorrehent press release.

Fishman initiates investigation in Jersey City to do potential wrongdoing. Fulop says he is part of fast right and left wing conspiracy of people that hate him. Lol give me a break.

I really wish Fulop would stop with this stupid conspiracy theory shit. He forgets what happened to Dawn Zimmer. I was supporting him, but I'm done. You were elected to be Mayor of Jersey City. Not a watchdog of mismanagement in Atlantic City.

Fulop puts Norcross on blast over AC

With acrimony growing over Atlantic City?s financial situation and a state takeover plan, Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop on Tuesday aimed a scathing statement not only at Gov. Chris Christie, with whom he?s been fighting, but at George Norcross, the most powerful unelected Democrat in the state.

?I know people will say that what I am about to express will hurt me in a potential gubernatorial race ? I don?t care,? said Fulop, a likely Democratic candidate for governor in 2017. ?Also, I know that people will say that Christie and Norcross will use, as they have done in the past, government entities and law enforcement in Trenton to intimidate me ? however, the truth is the truth.?

The statement ? and a response from Norcross calling Fulop's statement "unhinged" and claiming he recently "begged" for Norcross's support for a gubernatorial run ? marks a rare public surfacing of the type of political disputes usually kept behind closed doors.

Fulop is likely to face Senate President Stephen Sweeney ? sponsor of Atlantic City takeover legislation that passed the state Senate ? in a Democratic primary for governor. Norcross, who runs an insurance brokerage that has public contracts across the state, is Sweeney?s political patron, and has worked closely with Christie since he took office in 2010.

Worth reading from Sweeney:

---

According to Sweeney, one of the main areas of concern with Prieto?s bill is an issue of fairness. Sweeney said that if Atlantic City fails to meet the first of the Prieto bill?s outlined benchmarks, the state will need to give the city a large sum of money regardless of the needs of other New Jersey municipalities.

?If Atlantic City doesn?t hit any of the benchmarks, the state will have to write a check for $96 million. How does [Budget Chair] Senator [Paul] Sarlo or myself explain that to the mayor of Paterson, the Mayor of Newark??

Sweeney also said that Prieto?s bill will just lead to a repetition of history if it passes in the assembly.

?The governor vetoed a bill that would have given Atlantic City two years. He already did that. I saw that movie,? Sweeney said. ?Realize I sponsored the PILOT bill in November of 2014.?

According to Sweeney, a state takeover is important because the AC municipal government has yet to make progress on the financial issues there.

?They have done nothing or very little to deal with their problem up to this point,? Sweeney said. ?Atlantic City has had plenty of time to deal with this problem but every time you turn around they are giving misstatements and flat out lying. Atlantic City?s failure, which is coming, will have an impact on ten innocent communities that aren?t in this battle so, unfortunately, we aren?t in a good place.?

If Atlantic City defaults on debts, Moody?s said that 10 municipalities with poorer credit ratings, including Newark, Paterson, Trenton, and Union City, will also face credit downgrades.

?The point is I need a solution to a serious problem,? Sweeney said.

Mayor Fulop Responds to Norcross/Sweeney/Christie
Atlantic City Bill and Accusations On Involvement

JERSEY CITY ? Steven M. Fulop, a Marine Corps Veteran and Mayor of Jersey City, responded the conduct of Norcross, Christie, and Sweeney during the past two weeks, which should expose serious concerns for residents of Atlantic City and New Jersey.

?I know people will say that what I am about to express will hurt me in a potential gubernatorial race -- I don?t care. Also, I know that people will say that Christie and Norcross will use, as they have done in the past, government entities and law enforcement in Trenton to intimidate me ? however, the truth is the truth.? Fulop said.

?Residents throughout the State should ask themselves some simple questions -- why is an insurance broker, a non-elected official, who has made tens of millions of dollars on the backs of public taxpayers actively involved in drafting Atlantic City?s takeover bill and then lobbying for it all over New Jersey? Why is a non-registered lobbyist who is an insurance broker actively calling Assembly members throughout New Jersey? Does anyone in New Jersey actually believe that what is happening is in the best interest of Atlantic City or New Jersey? I think it is really in the best interest of certain individuals. Just look at the track record here.? Fulop continued.

?Furthermore, why is a Republican Governor actively being dictated to on state legislation by a non-elected insurance broker? Does this make sense to anyone? Why are they so adamant about not compromising with the Assembly? The answer is simply that certain aspects of the state?s politics in Trenton are rotten to the core and that is the truth.? Fulop said

Fulop concluded ?I fully expect Governor Christie and George Norcross to use their tools to come after me but the truth needs to be said. As Mayor of Jersey City, my only involvement in Atlantic City?s takeover bill has been with regards to visiting Atlantic City because residents reached out to indicate to me that we should be wary of inviting casinos to Jersey City. Period. ?

Why does a mayor in NJ begin a recall against a Governor, when there has been a much better publicized (and fruitless effort) within the state? And the latest out of Trenton is that Prieto's public service union gift approach to AC is dead in the water. But why was Fulop so 100% gung ho for the casino before, and now he's waffling? What information or else has changed his mind? He knows what AC looks like, he's been going there for the League of Municipality meetings.
