Choose to have an area of JC inhabited by:

group of Jews who really don't commit any violent street crime (shootings) , take care of their children and most likley will not default on their home mortgages

or

have a crime ridden blight of what was in it's heyday a very vibrant part of JC, that was in fact inhabited by TONS of Ashkenazi Jewish families - that is now an area of boarded up store fronts with the sparse bulletproof glass liquor store or fried chicken stand.

Maybe we can even get a B&H store on Jackson Ave, love that place.

This thread sucks. Why doesn't the moderator moderate it if we're not going to get an ignore button?

Whenever they pull their anti-semitism card out, I wish they'd also pull out their Medicaid card as well as their true bank statement under someone else's name which has more money than we can ever hope for. I just hope Monroe doesn't sell out and say, "Eh, screw it," and make this entire town one huge Monsey.

They are not holy people nor the chosen ones. They're just corrupt. Plain and simple.

Years ago I had a roommate from Israel. From what he told me it seems if it wasn't mutual fear & hatred of the Arabs giving them a common enemy, they Hasidics and the rest of the Jews would be at each others throats.

This column is a bit silly. It plays up the typical fears of change while downplaying the real benefits received.

dude, hasidic jews aren't frequenting chinese restaurants.

There were a few kosher Chinese restaurants on the lower east side catering to Orthodox and Hasidic Jews, no shellfish or pork dishes the food was not good.
They won't patronize the downtown Chinese restaurants be cause 1. the food is not kosher and 2. the price points are too high, they want everything cheap.

Ok, I agree that they do a lot of things they are not supposed to do and I know what you're saying, but I'm just pointing out that Jews and their fondness of chinese food has nothing to do with Hasidic jews...it's other jews. It seems like some do not recognize that there is a vast difference between Hasidic Jews and almost any other type of jew.

Yes, because JC did such a great job of it on its own.

OK then. I say that this kind of talk is beyond ridiculous, and is borderline anti-semitic. They are not going to empty JC's coffers by buying property in Ward F.

And again I ask, what exactly do you propose we do? Should someone who is selling their home refuse to sell to someone with a Jewish-sounding last name? Why not outlaw Yeshivas in JC? Should all the Christians get together, and vote in lock step for non-Hasidic school board candidates? Or perhaps we should throw garbage at anyone wearing a black coat, beards and a hat?

If you enjoy your public schools being terrible forever, by all means, let the Hasidim in.

They haven't screwed up one school board. They have systematically taken over every town they've inhabited. Go ask Lakewood how they feel about them.

On the one hand, I respect their hustle. They have like a 99% voter turnout, and they vote in lockstep. They also pool their money as a community to get what they want. Unfortunately, what they want is your tax dollars. They'll get them by taking over your neighborhood, allowing you to stay, but bleeding your resources dry by taking over your school board and defunding it, reducing their property tax burden. That money will then be used to build their private Yashivas. Your buses will also bring their kids to their schools.

Say whatever you want about me, I'm just the messenger.

Check out East Ramapo.

They'll take over the entire Jersey City school board? How is that going to happen if they buy up some Greenville real estate? And they'll get their hands on the 16% of the school budget that JC taxpayers actually contribute??

There's definitely nothing you can do about it.

Nobody in Ward A is going to out hustle them. Their hustle is unparalleled.

I'm not saying there's anything you can or should do about it. I'm just saying people have very justified reasons to worry.

This is the opposite of having gays and artists gentrify your neighborhood.

However, my neighbors and other black homeowners say they are receiving calls, not only at home, but also at work asking if they'd be interested in selling.

"This is verging on harassment," one resident said.

This happens all the time downtown too...

They are probably getting gentrified/priced out of their Brooklyn neighborhoods, such as BoroPark. They have discovered the homes JC that have enough room for their large families.

I am a Ward A resident and property owner without children. I am not worried at all. I grew up around HJ and i work with them daily , I am excited to see them finally move in. Only downside is the no driving on Saturdays and they tend to walk down Garfield in a posse clogging up the entire sidewalk.

It used to be that whites didn't want blacks moving into their neighborhood for fear they would commit a lot of crime and generally ruin the neighborhood. So they created associations and came up with schemes to make it very difficult for a black family to move in.

Now it appears the shoe is on the other foot, and these black neighborhoods do not want white Jews moving in. Considering we have tons of anti discrimination laws now, I can't see how they will be successful. Interesting how the more things change, the more they stay the same.

Hasidic Jews around here have a bad reputation as neighbors:
