Where are these kids currently going to school?

Please explain how this represents any tearing up of or burning of the Constitution?

My guess is you can't.

Presidents have been issuing Executive Orders for quite some time now. Even Reagan and Bush the elder issued EOs on exactly this subject. As far as Republicans in Congress, Americans have been pleading for immigration reform, and the House has refused to enact a damn thing if the last 6 years.

They don't, but they can check for actual residency. The upshot will be even more illegal children arriving in JC. They won't be enrolling in Warren and Ridgewood.

Politics aside, being an immigrant myself, I'm glad to see this. I know the rights and wrongs of this action, but it's great that so many people will now have an opportunity to achieve their "american dream" (or at least an equal chance). Their parents came here and do all the low paying menial jobs that no Americans would do (like dish washing, etc), hoping for a brighter future for their kids. Now they will actually have a chance.

Enough partisan jockeying Fulop. We get it. You're running for governor. Surprise surprise.

Fulop applauds Obama's move on immigration

By Terrence T. McDonald | The Jersey Journal
November 20, 2014 at 8:53 PM

Jersey City Mayor Fulop offered support tonight of President Obama's decision to use executive action to overhaul the nation's immigration system.

Fulop said in a statement that his administration supports Obama's "major step in the right direction" for millions of undocumented immigrants. Fulop took a swipe at congressional Republicans, saying they have "consistently failed to do what is right for America."

"Jersey City, in the shadow of the Statue of Liberty, has one of the most diverse communities in the country home to thousands of immigrant families," Fulop said. "To assist these these families, we have established an Office of Diversity & Inclusion, offer English language courses and citizenship classes and services through City Hall and have been working with the federal Immigration and Citizenship services to help these families toward success and fulfilling the American Dream."

Whether you agree with it or not, many folks in our area will likely benefit (somewhat) from the immigration action announced by President Obama tonight.

Surprisingly, DHS did a pretty good job of outlining the specific details of the announcement here:

http://www.dhs.gov/immigration-action

This is NOT an action that gives a path toward permanent citizenship. Basically, this helps protects specific groups of people from potential deportation and allows them to gain work authorization. It is a temporary measure only.

The three main benefits include:

-Expanded Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) Program

-Extended Deferred Action to Parents of U.S. Citizens and Lawful Permanent Residents

-Expanded Provisional Waivers to Spouses and Children of Lawful Permanent Residents

Mayor Fulop applauded the action and spoke of the city's Office of Diversity and Inclusion in an NJ.com article tonight. I assume the city will be helping folks navigate this new action.

You can contact the Jersey City Office of Diversity & Inclusion at (201) 547-5555.
