What did the landlord do this time?

Just heard the same from a friend. I may just have to go there tonight for a beer or two. It's a shame that corner can't seem to make it. By far, the most promising incarnation to date has been M.A.E. and that flamed out spectacularly.

Blame the landlord. He has to stick his fingers into every single project that opens there. That neighborhood deserves far better.

Thank you everyone for the great turnout last night. Nu Bar is proud to be a part of the Bergen Lafayette community, and hope to do many more events with the Morris Canal CDC in the future.

That would be rather funny... I was on the edge in front of the windows facing Communipaw. Thankfully, they put the Devils game on for me so I could catch most of the last period.

I was at the end of the bar but didn't arrive until about 10pm. I'm sure there will be another time...

Bummer I got there way too late, they were already calling last call. I was in NYC at the protest and didn't get back in time...

I'm game. It was discussed before and failed to come to fruition.

The Lafayette holiday party at Nu Bar was great, but in general Nu Bar just keeps getting better. The food, the wine and beer options (reportedly cocktails.too, for people who like them), and the crowd. They also play cool music at a reasonable level. It's a laid-back neighborhood bar, which I say as a 40-somethimg who has bitched about restaurants in that space in the past. Nu Bar is a great addition to the neighborhood.

It's definitely chill. They put the Devils game on when I asked. You are right on the cocktails. They are excellent.

Thanks everyone for the well wishes, just here to answer some of the questions posted.

We continue to be open for Monday night Football, with happy hour all night and $16 Coronita+bbq wing specials.

Thursday nights are movie Thursdays, with $1 off wine by the glass or bottle, and a different film each week. Showing starts at 7:00 pm, and as always we have Thursday night football on the other side.

Sundays we are open at 1pm for lunch, with happy hour all day.

On tap for a limited time we have Terrapin Moo-Hoo chocolate stout and Riverhorse Imperial Pumpkin ale, and by the bottle we have Terrapin Pure bliss chocolate / peanut butter porter, Riverhorse special ale, Brooklyn lager and much more.

We just switched over to the Fall and Winter menu and have a variety of new cocktails.

If you haven't stopped in yet, please do soon! we have a lot of new items to try.

Are you still closed Tuesday evenings? I doubt there is a ton, if any, business to be done that day, but I am curious.

It's a great spot for Downtowners who frequent Liberty State Park - it's close to the lightrail.

Nu Bar is building momentum. It's well managed, and the building owner has finally learned to back off - meaning that it's not likely to close abruptly in a month like the location's past three ventures.

The food is hitting its stride, the drinks are reasonably priced, and the setting is profoundly chill. It's a great neighborhood local, and a welcome escape from downtown's emergent scene.

The menu isn't huge, but it seems fine. I had the tacos one night and just had some drinking there yesterday.

I'm definitely hoping that it sticks around...

I had a terrific Negroni there yesterday, perfect for the rainy fall day it was. Dorian's fried calamari (he uses some rice flour in the batter for crispness) are not your normal fried calamari either!

From Modern American Eatery to Torch-house and recently M Lounge, the establishment at 339 Communipaw Ave. has gone through a number of changes over the years.

But current general manager Dorian Alvarez say Nu Bar, the location's most recent
inhabitant, is here to stay.

"Nu Bar opened in July after a brief two-month stint as M Lounge," said Alvarez who previously managed the bar at M Lounge. "My goal is to (have) a neighborhood bar deeply involved in the community and the arts, with great food served simply and quality cocktails at a reasonable price point."

Alvarez plans to express a "unified vision" with Nu Bar for owner Caesar Johnson, and he aims to grow with the community while incorporating fresh homemade food and drinks.

"Our signature cocktail is our Nu Old Fashioned, made with bourbon, muddled lemon, orange and home made brandied cherries- and our own infused spiced simple syrup," Alvarez added.

Other regular items at the restaurant include "Nu Fries" served with garlic cilantro
aioli and ketchup, a "Nu Burgers" made with caramelized onions and mouth-watering "Nu Wings served with your choice of chipotle, barbecue ginger or scallion jerk sauces.

But Nu Bar's specialty, Alvarez said, are its tacos, with at least three different options served everyday.

BG's at the Junction, or Maritime Parc/Liberty House are about it I think. And since I can't carry in NJ I'm not going to BG's anytime soon.
