I assumed this was going to be a thread for complaints about helicopter noise.

I, too, like the fog horns on days like today.

And a great selling point for real estate or potential renters.

Sound travels freakishly well on water, regardless of conditions actually. Be careful what you say on the water, people can hear you up to 100 yards away, no problem!

Anyone remember the thick fog on the 1st Sunday of November? I was out kayak fishing in it with a gps. Totally freaky: windless, flat, and the fog carries the sounds so well an approaching 35' fishing boat sounded like a giant barge!

Me too!

We're in VVP to (facing south) and we definitely enjoy hearing those cargo ships and trains bellowing from time to time?the heavy fog added a "fedora and trench coat" dimension!

Agreed, tommyc_37! Definitely a cool sound. I am lucky enough to live right across LSP, by the Park & Ride and, when outside, you can hear the horns clearly. As I took my dog for his morning walk, we were greeted by the horns.

I live on Van Vorst Park and I can hear them pretty clearly, which I thought was surprising.

Ohhh, I always thought those horns coming through the night (or fog) are so romantic! Too many late night movies

However, I'm too far from the water to hear them. On a quiet night, I do hear the cargo trains passing by. That's pretty cool too...
