I think the place that is supposed to open at Erie and First is going to be like that. Personally, a place where I could pick up a slab of lasagne and a salad would be nice.

Yea, I'm aware of these places, but what was great about getting off at the grove st station was that all these pizza joints were on the way home and there was no need to deviate from your commute. Outside of the food court at the mall (which is a weird and depressing culture on its own) the pickings could be pretty slim depending on the route you take home (from Newport that is).

Am I the only one that gets an upset stomach every time after eating at the food court.

1. I never really thought of Porta as a pizzeria... but I have never been there in the day. I always thought of it as a night spot. So I could be wrong, looking at the menu, they do have a lot of pizza on it, hopefully they change the menu a bit.

2. Iron Monkey is a great craft beer bar.

3. Hoboken's single's age range is from 21-45, you just need to know where to look for what you are trying to find.

Every time I have gone to this spot it is three gay dudes and 10 straight women hanging out. If this is a gay bar it has failed.

I agree, enough with the pizza. Somebody can make a lot of money here if they open:

- a casual but quality BBQ joint
- a really fun cocktail bar
- a non-theme craft beer pub (love Barcade but it's a large theme bar versus a smallish pub)

However, after looking into this Pizza Porta in Asbury, it seems that it is more of a bar/hangout. In that case, that could be kind of cool.

Porta means door or gateway so they used the Italian word to give the business a catchy name by using a two word alliteration.

Yeah I'd like that too ! Jersey City should be the pizza capital of N.J. It would be a cool thing to be known for. I'm glad this is going to be a brick oven place a nice change from the regular fare. Hopefully they will have a personal pie and outdoor seating incase some would like to bike there.

There are women in Hoboken bars? I've only seen immature girls.

At first I thought your post said Domino's. Domino's is in fact opening a store on Newark Ave, to further saturate the pizza market (if you can call Domino's product pizza).

This is good stuff. A lot of my friends from Central/South Jersey go there all year long and enjoy it. Hopefully the vibe transcends, like I said the singles scene/night spot scene could use a boost.

This place looks promising and I think they will fit right in the demographic of J.C. no matter what section. They should try for the east side of the Heights. The items and ingredients look very fresh and organic and the staff/owners seem well versed in their craft and I am happy to see one Italian name in the bunch.

I am hoping this is more like the Porta in Asbury Park and not just a Pizzeria... The singles scene could use a boost in the downtown area.

I'm with you 100%. There are so many things Jc doesn't have, yet people want to keep opening the same type of spots (pizza, burger, craft beer bar, Thai, etc). IMO we could use an Izakaya like someone else mentioned, a cocktail bar (maybe even a speakeasy), traditional ramen spot, Korean BBQ spot, upscale Afro-Caribbean, Ethiopian, etc.

I signed up to receive emails from my neighborhood association and it was in one of those. Maybe check with your association.

Does anyone know if their permit includes operating a dance club as well as serving food? Nothing like a sweaty Tarantella to get you in the mood for pizza.

Perhaps additional competition will drive prices to be more competitive... however, i prefer more selection of other foods (i.e., izakaya or a tapas restaurant) but i guess pizzas have a high profit margin :)
