If you are religious or not, since you are in that area, visit St. Aedans Church. It is a gem.

Astor Bar is great for cheap drinks and thin crust bar pies. Just a regular neighborhood bar.

PS Welcome to the neighborhood HelenaJC! When we moved here (also from Brooklyn 5 years ago) I came across this forum and have since found many helpful recommendations here, from restaurants to my mechanic...to the Beware of Towers in the Shoprite plaza post (TIP-Don't EVER park there to go to the mall , you WILL be towed!!).

Best of luck in your new home!

I've never tried Lucky's Market and I've been here 5 years..will check it out! I'm stoked about the Asian Market on 440...does anyone know when it's opening?

My wife and I lived on Duncan before moving to DTJC. I agree with the above posters that Lucky Farmers Market has some of the best produce anywhere in JC.

Also, there is apparently a Wonder Bagel opening on that block.

I agree C-town is pretty good, when I lived in the area I would hit up C-town on Bergen and Twin City on Sip. If you have a car it may be worth checking out Twin City on Garfield, its pretty awesome. Also there is a fruits and Veggie market on Bergen, I can not remember the name but it was FANTASTIC!!!! Its near Fairmount. Very fresh produce at a very fair price and the owners are lovely people. Good Luck in your new apt, enjoy it :)

I think you might mean Lucky Produce at Bergen & Fairmount. They are great. So is the produce market on Bergen between Glenwood.

Yes, that's it! Thanks you. I love that place.

If you don't mind me asking, whereabouts is your new home?

For Fruits and Veggies go to Fruit & Farm 2823 JFK Blvd. Their should be a pretty huge Asian Market coming to Hudson Mall.

Newark Ave. and Little India has everything "Apanza Bazar" , C-Town is fine. There is couple mom & Pop Fruit/Veggie Stores on Montgomery & Bergan Ave. etc. JSQ is still developing, not as fast as Downtown but developing non the less.

C-Town is a little dreary-looking on the outside, but it's immaculately clean and they have a great selection of ethinic foods from all over the world. It's fun to just roam the aisles and see what they have.

You're closer to Pecoraro's brick oven bakery on Newark Avenue, but if you're mobile than Elio's on West Side Avenue is worth a visit-Pecoraro's is mostly bread, Elio's has a deli section and sweet bakery items. Their Sicilian pizza is excellent, but they don't always have it.

And while you didn't ask, Boulevard Drinks a few doors away from Loew's is one of NJ's top hot dogs!

Hello JC Residents-

My husband and I have just purchased a 2-bedroom pre-war unit in Journal/McGinley Square. [We were priced out of Brooklyn--we've been renting in Fort Greene--and felt our money went further in JC than most parts of Queens. We're pretty thrilled with our apartment, which feels palatial to us!]

I'm wondering if anyone here can recommend food stores or delis with fresh produce? A hidden bakery we've overlooked? We're prepared to rely heavily on C Town and Fresh Direct, but I wanted to see if there were other options.

Thanks in advance!
