It is on the west side of Tonnelle Ave/Rt. 1&9 South and I'm glad you recognized the location as the Heights/Western Slope. Some consider it on the outskirts of town.

I was there a couple of weeks ago. Some homeless folks have pitched a tent at the end of the entry road. But yes, it's a nice cemetery, the oldest Catholic cemetery in JC.

The cemetery by Dickenson is named Jersey City-Harsimus Cemetery. I was there in 1969 for the burials of my great-grandparents.

it is currently run by volunteers.

You can look into find a grave .com or the Hudson County

Geniology Society. They can help you.

There are many old cemeteries in Jersey City. Holy Name,

Old Bergen Church, Bay-view started in 1848., There is one

on Tonnelle Ave, One By Dickinson High School.

If your ancestor is Catholic, he might be buried here.

I live right next to one, take the lightrail to Richard street and walk through Bayside Park and you will walk right into it.

Bayview ? New York Bay Cemetery

Resized Image

The cemetery is a resting place for the first Dutch settlers, Earlier Jewish residents and a few Jersey City mayors. Its a stunning and beautiful cemetery that is kept up by volunteers from Greenville and Bayonne.

I recently found that I have several ancestors who lived (and died)in JC. Does anyone know of cemeteries in the city with pretty old graves? I'm looking for graves from around 1900.
