cooking eggs on high temp flat top is very quick. if cook is not backed up, a few minutes is not unreasonable to assemble the sandwich... and yes, all the bacon would be cooked-off before opening at a busy breakfast joint like wonder.

Had the egg/cheese/pork-belly brunch sandwich at Grove Kitchen. Great stuff.

When they are busy, they just crack fresh eggs on the grill as they take them off. They go through them that fast. Bacon, like most places, is mostly cooked in advance and crisped up and heated as each sandwich is ordered.

If you want to see how long it would take to make a sandwich on demand, order a non-standard one. Scrambled eggs instead of fried, and ham instead of bacon.

If it was 2 minutes it was cooked, assembled and sitting under a heat lamp to keep it hot before it was in your hands.

So in our quest to find a breakfast place that opens at 7 on the weekend, we had forgotten about Christo's (Coles near HP) and they are open at 7 (on Sat)! So if anyone else is feeling like an egg sandwich before 8 am and lives near HP, this is a good option.

Little Sandwich Shop (which isn't so little any more) has a great breakfast sandwich. I'm pretty sure they are open early during the week.

I haven't been there for almost a year now, but the deli in the ground floor of 10 Exchange Place (directly across from the PATH station) makes a surprisingly good breakfast sandwich. Sausage egg & cheddar on a croissant, that's my jam. I went there for breakfast a few times a week for a solid 5 years, and it never disappointed.

New York Bagel Deli on Newark between 1st and Jersey Aven does a good breakfast sandwich. Before anyone starts a religious bagel war, I am not saying that their bagels are great (i've never had them), but they do a good job at their breakfast sandwiches. They are very good at making them to order and they're pretty fast. Online, it says they open at 6AM daily, even on weekends.

No I do, and I did. Just seemed natural for people to throw 8's on here since there are very few 7's.

FYI, old threads get bumped all the time. In those cases people might contribute new information about the original subject.

Thanks to everyone who provided some suggestions, but yeah, I was aware of most of these (except the deli on 5th and Erie, but that also seems to be an 8 AMer). I was really just wanting a sanity check that I wasn't missing something that opened earlier. Wonder Bagels is not far, just not fun in the winter on a Sat morning :)

I'm pretty sure OP is aware of places that serve breakfast in JC and is specifically looking for someone that is open before 8 am on a weekend. Second Street doesn't even open until 9 am. Most breakfast places open at 8 am- that's the entire point of this post. Why is everyone listing recommendations and then observing the fact that they open at 8??

Because this is a "Best JC Breakfast Sandwich?" thread. Also, since there are limited choices at 7, for that particular question people are listing 8's as well in case fraulein has the ability to eat a breakfast sandwich after 7:59.

Let me know if you have any other questions or concerns!

The thread was only resurrected and added to an already existing thread because someone asked the question "where can I get a breakfast sandwich on a weekend before 8 am?". That is why everyone keeps ending their recommendation with "but they open at 8". Downtown isn't that big- I can't imagine anyone who lives here (who obviously has access to the Internet) coming to this thread just so people can list all the deli's by their house for them. But you obviously don't have the ability to even read a few posts ahead to see what I'm referring to so maybe I'm wrong!

2nd Street Bakery is close to you, and makes THE BEST breakfast sandwiches. I'm not sure what time they open though.

My secret best breakfast sandwich that also delivers is Gotham Deli's special. $4.50 for 3 eggs, bacon, sausage and cheese all on a delicious soft hero.

Unfortunately opens at 8.

La Conguita opens at 8. Bacon/egg/cheese there is good and big (could feed 2). The bacon is deep fried, which is unusual but works. There are other menu sandwiches with more going on.

Thanks UrbanRenewal I am familiar with the origns of "doubles" a co-worker years ago introduced them to me(she was from Guyana).

And to me personally, the bread of the doubles has a different consistency(thicker/dough) than Indian puri which are flaky and thinner.

And the taste is different as well but luv both traditions whether they are West Indian or East Indian.

Doubles = Delicious! It's a breakfast staple in Trinidad and Tobago, but I could eat those sandwiches at any time of day or night. My co-workers of Caribbean origin introduced me to the joys of Doubles a few years back.

If you're looking for Doubles in Downtown Jersey City, you could try Nicole's Caribbean Restaurant at the corner of Jersey and Columbus which is Guyanese-owned.

While I don't think they have Doubles listed explicitly on their menu, you could order their Channa (stewed, curried chick peas) and Puri (fried bread) and assemble your own. Top your sandwich with some of their complementary house-made scotch bonnet hot pepper sauce for some intense heat.

You could also try any of the Indian or Pakistani restaurants scattered around Downtown Jersey City or near in the Little India area of Journal Square. Just order the Doubles-esque Chole Bhature.

Or make your own version of Doubles by ordering Chana Masala and Bhatura or Puri. Customize your creation with some complimentary cucumber, onion, Achaar and/or chutney (coconut, tamarind, cilantro -- or a little of each) and you have a mighty tasty vegetarian sandwich packed with flavor.

Happy eating!
