That's the only thing that worked for me. I'm not a cat person but our little guy keeps the house 100% mouse free.

+1 on the mouse zapper. We got one several years back - caught three of them in a 24-hour period. It is the quickest, no-mess way to kill them.

Sometimes glue traps are the only thing that works. You hear a caught mouse pretty quickly and can dispatch them as humanely as any other method - like folding the card and stepping on it.

These worked best for me:

http://www.homedepot.com/p/Victor-Min ... t-3-Pack-M753SN/204694121

The sound waves drove the mice away and I never saw any in my place again. Even my mother-in-law couldn't aggravate the mice as much as these did.

Did anyone else find mouse droppings in their house this morning? It looks like some mice were frightened by the storm, sought shelter and mistook my counters for a rodent restroom.

Thought I'd add. The first sign we had of mice in our house was they triggered our motion-sensitive security cameras. The cameras were great for figuring where to place traps. We have the logitech alert ones, but you can probably find a decent camera for a lot less.

Another tip, by the time you notice their dropping, they'll have already started nesting. You may want to check out those dark areas of the house that don't see much traffic, quiet rooms, storage closets, etc. An early spring clean couldn't hurt.

Where you place the traps is key. Mice will run along the sides of walls and tend to stay on the same path when looking for food. Peanut butter and or chocolate always worked for me. I never did the steel wool thing for holes. I took bottles put them in a pillow case smashed the bottles with a hammer and filled the holes, and topped it with hardening clay or some self hardening putty. From what i hear mice will figure a way to get pass the wool over time. But glass will always create a severe problem almost training the mice in a sense knowing that any type of chewing will cause cuts and bleeding.

Don't know if there is any validity to this trick - but it worked for me. I set the old-fashioned traps and the sticky ones against a right angle so that one corner of the trap is snug at two solid points in an "L" (like the end of counter wall). The little critters run along the walls and floors with a wall to their side so apparently this is a good way to trap them. Mice love chocolate by the way.

The glue traps are good for under the stove, fridge and dishwasher areas...mice like these areas for the warmth.

I once lived in a condo with a mouse issue. We couldn't figure out where they were coming in from until we pulled out the dishwasher and stove and discovered the huge holes in the walls that the mice were using to get in. We did the steel wool trick mentioned below - it worked quite well!

Good luck!

The main trick is to make sure you get one that's nice and playful (laser pointers/fake mice prey drive) and keep a collar with no bells on so the mouse doesn't get any warning signs.

Go to hardware store and purchase coarse steel wool ~ NOT the little pads with blue soap in them ~ A bag of the stuff is *silly cheap*. Plug any holes in cabinets (along dishwasher water, refrigerator water line, stove gas line, etc.) with a blob of the stuff and the mice will quickly be at bay.

How do I know all of this? Lying on the coach one night watching tv, I kept haring little mouse noises. Looked to my right and there was a little grey guy propped up on the back of the vouch, staring me down.

Plugged all the holes and soon they were gone.
Best of luck.

Thanks to all for the suggestions! We'll probably have to bite the bullet and seal any holes in the house. Still need to evict the mouse though. Thanks again!

I like this method!

We had mouse problems and didn't have much luck with the traditional traps. I hate to admit it, but we have had excellent results with an electronic mouse repellent. I bought it at BB&B for around $20 out of desperation. The research that i did on it wasn't definitive, one way or another, but I swear it works. It doesn't bother my pets at all, either. It may take a week or so for the mouse to leave. And yes, find the holes and plug them with steel wool.

It's not about killing the mice, it's about blocking up the holes that allow them into your apartment.

I had luck using grated cheese, peanut butter never worked. I got quite a few the last few winters! Good luck!

It's all about placement. Bayonne Exterminators did the job for me, and they'll give you a 6 month warranty.

I would not get a cat specifically to fend off mice. There's several problems with that, namely:

? The cat might not be a good mouser.
? The cat might be a really good mouser... and leave some presents on your bed.
? Some mice can feed off your pet's food.
? You should really get a cat because, well, you want to get a cat. It can be a very long commitment.

Use these or Catchmaster to cordon off areas of your house. Mice scuttle right over store-bought ones.

It's a little gross, but we had some sneaky little guys running around, and the only thing that worked is those cheap wooden snap traps. The plastic traps and glue did nothing for us, then the wooden ones started snapping away when we put a little cheese on them. Got them at the hardware store on Newark Ave near Barrow.

Living in a garden level apartment and have a mouse running around in the kitchen. Laid out traps (both snap and glue boards) with peanut butter bait but to no effect. Mouse is not interested. I occasionally the mouse and notice mouse poop so I know it's around. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.
