I tend to dress classic/vintage these days and it's funny when the witnesses mistake me for having conservative values as a result. No, I'm an athiest former punk and goth who's had more piercings than I can count on my fingers and toes combined. I am the type of heathen you should be scared of. Looks are deceiving.

Depend how you gauge community. One person, one family, commerce, government employees. It's how you immerse yourself into the community.

I would hope so ! It's only right. Would not want to insult or offend the victims of 9-11. just thinking outside the box.

Honestly, when they knock on my door on the weekends or approach me as I'm slogging home from the office and ready to plop onto the PATH escalator , I just kinda scratch my head and wonder how many folks respond to them positively with a " hey, I was just looking for a new religion...please tell me more."

You've gotta give them credit ~ I mean, what must their conversion rates be like?

this. i've told them in no uncertain terms to f*&k off, as i have no desire to walk down and up 4 flights of stairs so some moron can preach their fairy tale at me. They seem to have stopped, but I'm sure that eventually some new recruit will not get the memo and I'll tell him/her to f(^% off as well.

hi.

altho i'm about as religious as a doorknob, so shrug. Quite a few orthodox jews have moved out of brooklyn due to crowding/high rents. They've mostly settled in the heights, but some have moved downtown

The right to free speech does not give you the right to speak anywhere at any time. Most towns have laws against solicitation in confined public spaces where there is a captive audience. Subway stations and trains are a prime example.

I believe that religious proselytizing is a protected form of free speech. just like begging. We may not agree with what they say, but we should defend to the death their right to say it. :)

Religion does not get an exception, you need a permit to set up shop on PATH property. The PA cops chase others off when they find them.

If anybody should know the law on soliciting, it should be JW's.

I know for a fact, you need a PERMIT to do anything at the Path Station.

I talked to PAPD, reached out and actually got a permit to get people to sign my petitions in my run for Councilman for Ward E.

Not sure if religion gets an exception.

They have been recruiting in the area for years. Every one I have encountered has been incredibly nice and non pushy. If you say you are not interested, they give you a smile and leave you alone. It has never bothered me. Wish we had more neighbors like them!

never even thought about it. They do it in NYC MTA too. Seems pretty harmless to me (they seem so put together), at least they don't shout the bible out loud the whole time. I don't find them that pushy at all.

More power to them!
