At noon, Liberty Marina waters were at the walkway level but not into the streets yet. Little flooding near the parking lot but not quite up to the light rail tracks yet.

Looks like might have spilled onto the street around the end of Jersey Ave past the Medical Center at the footbridge into Liberty State Park.

Going back around 5 to check out water levels and see how the rising tide affecting flooding.

Saw this in the am..Newport Mall is closed don?t know about parking. See the other thread about where to park and also when driving will be shut down in JC.

?If you were thinking about taking advantage of your day off from work by going to the Newport Centre mall, you can forget it.

Simon Property Group officials announced this morning that the mall in Downtown Jersey City, and others in the Northeast, will be closed today because of Hurricane Sandy. A spokesman for the malls said this morning that a decision on whether or not the malls will open tomorrow has not been announced.?

Dr. Joe on 1010wins said: Tide will start to rise Monday 6:00 pm. High tide will be at 8:30 pm. Tide will recede at 10:30 pm. Irene had a 5 foot surge; Sandy will have a 10 foot surge.

Thoughts?

you should expect whatever you got during irene plus more being that theres flooding and the rain has barely begun.

Interesting news from http://jerseycitynj.gov regarding evacuations:

"Update 10/29 1:11pm: There will no longer be shelter pick-ups at the Newport Mall McDonalds since the area is under water. All further pickups should go to City Hall, 280 Grove Street or the Pavonia PATH station."

Oh look what is making the rounds on the internet. Gangs are planning looting sprees via twitter:

Scores of Twitter users have flooded the social networking site announcing their plans to go on looting sprees once Hurricane Sandy makes landfall, as the New York National Guard announced it would put troops on duty in Long Island to prevent such activity.

granted.. its Infowars.. hopefully its just a stupid rumor...

slight flooding by liberty harbor and the boat basin by st. peters. hopefully it recedes before the high tide later tonight.

Did the seawater at Liberty Harbor Marina reach the street, Marin Blvd?

Tonight Rain. The rain could be heavy at times. Low around 53. Very windy, with a northeast wind 30 to 40 mph becoming southeast after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 80 mph. Chance of precipitation is 90%. New precipitation amounts between 1 and 2 inches possible.

Tuesday Showers likely. Cloudy, with a high near 59. Windy, with a south wind 24 to 26 mph, with gusts as high as 47 mph. Chance of precipitation is 70%. New precipitation amounts between a quarter and half of an inch possible.

Went down to Exchange Place at 10 AM - not bad, a few hours past high tide. The Hudson was right at the level of the walkway by the pier/PATH station - I expected it to be worse. Not much open DT - only the Gotham Deli; Starbucks is closed at EP and Grove, didn't see anything else open. At 12:30 PM, wind and rain seems to be picking up now. Hope for the best. Haven't seen any flooding in the DT area from Warren down to the river. So far our basement is OK.

Low tide is in about 2 hours. Curious if there will still be flooding issues during low tide. If there is, that will bode ill for the waterfront areas tonight.

Why on earth were they at sea so close to the hurricane?

Holy crap, I toured that ship this summer in Greenport! What a shame. The ship, while not historic, had quite a cinematic resume, built for a Hollywood Bounty movie, and appearing an many more.

On the local front, it's interesting the NOAA & NYHOPS forecasts have converged on a 8.5' over sea level surge. Yesterday they disagreed by 2 ft.

How does closing the tunnels help protect against flooding, do they have barriers at the entrances that can be raised to keep out water?

When the eye passes, the wind will change direction. The surge will then move away from shore. That isn't going to happen until after midnight.

If you need to move it to higher ground, the city has made the following municipal lots available:

Montgomery Street and Orchard Street

Central Avenue lot adjacent to Burger King

522 West Side Avenue

754 West Side Avenue

174 Newark Avenue

Hoboken Avenue adjacent to Rt. 139
