well, embankment had the problem that it kinda sucked. Thanh Hoi, which is there now, is doing just fine from every indication I've seen (been there like 4 times since the move, always crowded).

What makes it a bad spot for a bar?

A liquor license ain't happening there. Seems the license travels with the property not the applicant, and neighbors don't trust the landlord to not install a crappy bar tenant if the property has a license. This all unfolded more than a decade ago when the italian place wanted to serve wine & beer.

Exactly, besides it's a terrible spot for a bar.

The rent is too high at that location...

No business would be able to survive there... Unless they had a pretty high turn-over rate or charged high prices for their meals.

A chorizo burrito sounds awesome, but they're still a couple of bucks more for a grilled chicken burrito than the pretty decent $6 one made by the Chinese at Future on Newark. Their sauce is lame, wish they had pico de gallo, but I have my own at home. Plus they're real fast, in store at least.

I have heard the rent is not cheap, and the russian landlord is unstable. The location is good, does it appear to be cursed, yes..there has been middle eastern, italian/seafood, on and on..and each one fails. For Ginfi, I believe it was poor execution. They did not have a vision, it seemed everything was fix as you go, decor, etc...The food was decent, nothing out of the extraordinary...hell, they did not have tortilla soup....so...what's up next LOL ! ! !

And instead of properly disposing of the burnt building material in a dumpster he just piled it on the sidewalk for regular trash pick up.

It's hard to blame the location for the last two failures. If you feel awkward going somewhere to eat the place isn't going to last long.

Hopefully the next place isn't setup on a shoestring budget.

I think it was a seafood restaurant before the crazy flea market/art cafe thing. Nothing that's been put there in the last 10 years has been well executed.

I had a feeling this would happen. Food was awesome and the staff was very friendly.

Problem one: Not on seamless.

Problem 2: Didn't take quick orders over the phone.

Had to remind them on numerous occasions that they may want to take down my phone number. Also kept you on the line sometimes as they took a minute to run the card, drove me nuts.
I will miss this one very much despite those ordering complaints. I always put up with it cause the burritos were amazing. Damn!

plus 1

I really liked their food, but always ordered take out. When I tried to order over phone last Saturday they said that the restaurant had gone out of business.

Don't know about the truck - hope that it is still doing fine.

I noticed that it was dark and empty on Saturday. Too bad, decent food but the service and atmosphere were very awkward. I think they also had a taco truck? Hopefully at least that business does OK for them.

It is a good location on a nice block for somebody with a vision to transform the space a bit. What was there before Parkside Bistro? Was it empty?

Walked past Ginfi last night and no lights were on.

Walked past again this morning and the restaurant was totally empty. No tables, chairs, signs, etc.

Looks like they closed the doors for good.

They had good food at times but they could never get the decor and atmosphere right.

Too bad, it's a great location for a good BYOB restaurant, but nothing has been successful.

Hopefully it's not empty too long.

We often get the chicken mole and salsa verde enchiladas for take-out. Delicious and convenient to have in the neighborhood!

I've been very happy with the food at Ginfi - actually think it's a neighborhood diamond in the rough and let's not forget it is BYO!!! Make a quick run to Madame Claude wine before

I have eaten in this restaurant about 10 times and had takeout a handful of times. The food has met or exceeded my expectations each and every time. The service has been consistently friendly and responsive to our needs. The food is far and away their strong suit. Service is next, and decor/ambiance are distant runners up. Not complaining one bit about those priorities.

I would urge more people to eat in to help them overcome the perception that this is a place to be avoided. It's a gem and we should support it.

The specials menu on the weekend is worth the trek or take out. The Posole (chx or pork) was really good.
My husband goes to their "Taco Mobile," a little silver food trailer near Exchange Place during the work week - very friendly. He loves the pork burritos.

We had brunch here a couple weeks ago and had a fine experience. The server was relatively quick with the coffee and the food. The food was delicious but the portions just a little small (I'm a slim girl and I was still a little hungry afterwards).

The two of us each got a platter, coffee came with the meal, and the bill was under $14, so very reasonable for brunch.

Mine was pretty spicy, the server must have noticed I was sweating a bit, and she kindly brought me some lime slices to cut the heat. I didn't need them (I like spicy) but appreciated the attention to the needs of the customers.

They need help with the decor. This space has never capitalized on the great light and ceiling height.

They have takeout menus. We took one home.
