At least the councilman will never have a 'whistle-blower' to worry about if he's up to no good, with the added benefit when he needs help when fiddling the books !

Come on, you cynics. Is it not possible that of all the job seekers in the world, his daughter just happens to be the most qualified for this position?

No, I couldn't finish typing that with a straight face.

sounds like the kind of job where you get paid to sit around on your ass and organize a festival twice a year

Just from the article in the JJ this morning I counted up six county and city jobs between Bill and his daughter Eileen (it didn't mention the ghoulish unclaimed bodies contract). Most people are doing all they can to complete every task in one job; how can these two possibly be doing all of these jobs completely or well?

This can't be real - we must be living on some kind of alternate plane, or else in a worm hole created when William Tweed died and his body's mass was removed from the universe, creating an imbalance of anti-matter.

Hey Gaughan do the right thing and hire one of your unemployed constituents for the job.
For $15K some poor soul wishing for a chance would surely do just as good a job if not better then your daughter.

Shame on you!!!!

Hey I bet you were sweating when the FBI came a knockin’ on your door.

2 Jersey City councilmen quizzed by FBI about city's involvement with insurance broker: report

By The Jersey Journal

Two Jersey City councilmen have confirmed that FBI agents recently approached them about the city's dealings with Bergen County insurance broker Joseph Bigica, a prominent campaign contributor who has brokerage contracts with a number of communities in northern New Jersey, The Record reported.

Councilman Peter Brennan and William Gaughan, while confirming the meetings, didn't provide any details about the FBI inquiries, according to The Record.

Brennan told The Record: "I don't really know the guy. I might see him once a year. All I know is he makes a lot of campaign contributions."

Bigica's web site states that he has provided brokerage services for the Passaic Valley Sewerage Commission, Jersey City, Bayonne, Secaucus, Garfield and the Hudson County Schools of Technology, the newspaper reported.

He still retains that contract.

Daughter Eileen was his aide & is also a nurse at Meadowview Hospital in Secaucus. This is a County job.

Eileen's x-husband is a supervisor for the HCIA. Don't know if the new hubby has secured his position yet.

Beanie's squeeze has a job with the Parking Authority & teaches at VoTech.

The grandson doesn't have a job - yet.

Barkeep! Another round!

The Jersey City City Council is expected tomorrow to appoint Ward D Councilman Bill Gaughan’s daughter as his council aide, a part-time job that comes with a $15,000 annual salary.

Eileen Gaughan is already her father’s subordinate at the county level, where he is the county chief of staff and she makes $59,800 annually as the assistant director for the Office of Cultural and Heritage Affairs/Tourism.

Councilman Gaughan, who earns $125,665 for his county job and $35,436 as councilman, said today that he needs “someone who’s going to know government” to help him in his city office.

How is this, in any way possible, the right thing to do?

Prior to this he had his daughter Bridget as an aide. His son-in-law has a job at the HCIA. His daughter Eileen has bounced from one County job after another, plus sitting on the MUA board. Nepotism at it's finest.
