The post office does, depends on who your mailman/women is, my guy knows when I am not around where to leave it. Which is a place out of view. UPS wont leave it, but FedEx does but they always seem to secure it.

I don't understand why they leave packages lying around in downtown JC. They don't do it in Greenville or anywhere else I've lived. If you're not there to sign for it you have to go pick it up.

Be on alert, packages being stolen in Hamilton Park.

A package was stolen from my stoop at 7th and Coles. It was left while we were out by the USPS. We walked around the neighborhood hoping the box had been rummaged through and left somewhere but no luck. Anyway if you see an abandoned box with vintage costume jewelry and/or vintage clothing in it let me know! Hopefully this was an isolated incident ....

Here's a thief that entered my building and opened a package of clothes for my baby. What upset me the most is that he then dumped the clothing in the trash. I only found them by accident.

Cops didn't do anything. Gave me bunch of BS, even after I provided them with a video...

Isn't opening someone else's mail a federal crime? The post office never got involved...

It's that time of year! On Wednesday a package from Williams Sonoma was left in the vestibule of our walk up on Sussex Street. UPS marked the package delivered. When I returned from work at 4:30, the package was gone. It's entirely possible that it was taken by someone in my building (10 units), but we usually will bring each other's deliveries in or to the door. I assume it was taken by someone looking for Christmas deliveries.

I usually have my deliveries sent to work because of this problem, but this was actually a gift someone was sending to me. Bah Humbug.

(ahh looks like someone from Hoboken was reading JCList and went with a modified version of the mailing the poopie idea. Seems they UPS?ed them selves a few pair of stinky draws. Probably let them ?cook? a few weeks before putting them in a plastic bag. Sounds like the bad guy opened them up and was overcome by the stink which obviously slowed his escape. Great job!)

Hoboken police charge Jersey City man with stealing Calvin Klein boxer shorts

Published: Monday, June 18, 2012, 3:00 AM

By Travis Fedschun/The Jersey Journal

HOBOKEN A Jersey City man was arrested Wednesday afternoon after cops say he entered a city apartment building and stole a UPS package containing Calvin Klein underwear, according to police.

Craig Davis, 52, was charged with burglary and theft after he was caught in Church Square Park holding two pairs of Calvin Klein boxer shorts in their original plastic packaging, police reports said.

A Park Avenue resident called police around 2:30 p.m. after seeing a man entering a neighboring building near the intersection of Park Ave and Third Street, according to reports. According to the witness, the man left a few moments later with a small UPS package, police said.

The neighbor said the man put the package under his arm, and then later removed the items inside it before heading into Church Square Park, reports said.

After given a description by the resident, police stopped a man who turned out to be Davis, who had the underwear in his jacket, reports said.

A cocaine label would be fun too. Mix in some nettles. I'd love to see some thief put that up their nose.

Yea poop is not good enough. Poison Ivy or Poison Oak. get some of that, use some gloves of course. Spread that all over the inside of the package and put leaves in a bag and label it marijuana - handle with care. And then sleep well at night :)

I had a package stolen and I agree with "WhoElseCouldIBe." Mailing poop or setting a poop bait is the dumbest idea and provides no solution. I have packages sent to my office now. Luckily the package that was stolen was replaced free by the company.

Anyone here try to postal police (at least for non FedEx / uPS packages)? I contacted them years back about a different issue. They were pretty responsive.

Messing with the mail is a big issue. I know of a guy who got several years in Federal prison just for messing with mailboxes (not even stealing the mail).

I'd tell it to them too. You think mailing poop is going to stop thiefs?

Incorrect.

You can either give the cops a description of the perp when and if they arrive and after the perp is long gone or you can follow the perp and help the cops put him away.

If you're in a multifamily building that has old primitive door buzzers, the solution to the package theft problem is a new electronic intercom entry system. It has programmable entry codes that can just be tapped into the door intercom phone, so I programmed one for the UPS & Fedex guys. They just buzz themselves in and leave the boxes in the lobby. It's not foolproof as UPS uses a lot of replacement drivers during holidays and such, but it's mostly great, and much safer for all the residents having a real intercom system.

My building had the buzzers, so I got a new Viking Electric system that tied into the phone distribution board, with a phone in the entryway. It required very little new wiring. The door rings your "landline" phone, though no actual account is needed. It was around $400.

Really....

Thanks for the warning?.I don?t know there seems to be a big debate if it is legal or not. (a little surprised people on the internet actually ask the question) Some sites say it is legal as long as you put a pooper....err I mean proper label on it and package it accordingly. People do after all mail stool samples to their doctors sometimes. I for one would just opt for the do-it-yourself crap sting. Don?t FedEx it just place it at your door step yourself. The poor USPS people have enough problems.

Delivering Dung? Mailing Feces Is Legal, State Says

-minute holiday gift tip: Regifting is nearly always inappropriate.

Fruitcake being that rare exception to the rule, slapping a fresh coat of wrapping paper on unwanted tokens of someone else?s affections can smack of insincerity.

Not so with a Dec. 10 anonymous e-mail request to the Virginia State Police, which seeks legal advice on a clever regifting idea that all but oozes with seasonal ? and well-seasoned ? sincerity.

?I would like to know if its illegal to give someone you hate, a [C]hristmas present, containing dog feces?? the writer asks. ?And can it be mailed??
State police, though attempting to provide guidance, could provide no firm advice.

?Sending poop ? probably constitutes the transport of hazardous materials through the mail,? says Tom Lambert, a legal specialist for the agency.
A fair assumption, but U.S. Postal Service spokeswoman Cathy Boule offers this advice for committed gift givers, loaded with such holiday cheer that they just can?t hold it:

?The bottom line is, yes [poop] can be mailed, but there are a lot of restrictions and guidelines that have to be followed,? Boule says. ?We have strict guidelines.?

Among those guidelines, mailers must declare their dookie, along with a reason for sticking a stamp on it. Revenge doesn?t pass the postal service smell test. And it must be packaged properly. In other words, no flaming paper bags.

The final arbiter is the U.S. Postal Service?s Domestic Mail Manual, section 10, dealing with the shipping of hazardous materials, Boule says: ?That would give him all the information how he should package it and how he should present it.?

Sorry guys but the cops aren't going to start a task-force. It's up to us to keep our eyes open. if you see a package for your neighbor bring it in till they get home. I have put some of these guys away in the past and it took extraordinary effort in getting the cops after the perps. In each case I had to pursue the perps inconspicuously till the cops got there. In each case the perps were walking and so I had to call repeatedly to update the location till I spotted a responding officer. Last time I witnessed a smash and grab on Pavonia and the cops didn't catch up till I was south of C. Columbus and there was a foot chase into the projects by Dixon Mills till the guy was caught. Basically you are either a witness or a participant.

I like the idea of a "bait" package. What's the boundary between theft felony and misdemeanor in JC/NJ.? $1k+? If so, some higher-value bait packages could put these scumbags away for a long time....

He won't. If you call and it is an emergency MAYBE they'll show up. If you call the non-emergency # then you know for sure they WON'T show up and they will actually tell you that on the phone because they say well if it's over before we get there just call us back and let us know. So that's a given !
If you want a JC police officer during the day go to 16th & Coles and look around, there are usually 2-3 stationed there all day reading the newspaper or sleeping. Our tax dollars go a long way !

Hmmm, maybe it's one of these "spotters" that also got my GPS as the wife and I were taking turns going to and from our 1st floor apt. to the car (http://jclist.com/modules/newbb/viewt ... p?topic_id=27208&forum=10). I say that only because they also took a box cutter from the emergency roadside kit in the backseat, so they may be in the mail theft business, too.

Why did I say old school JC? Well let?s just say many years ago I had a problem with some punks stealing and popping my big old style porch Xmas light blubs. I smeared a little xmas present on my low hanging bulbs. Needless to say the bulb?s stopped disappearing in no time. Merry Sh*tmas!
