I tried this restaurant for the first time this weekend upon a recommendation of a neighbor. I loved the food here. Had the mofongo and friend had the pernil. Great food, service, and decor. Definitely will be back :) Nice to see all these food options in JC!

The food here is excellent, you really can't go wrong with any of their dishes. My personal fav is the Mofongo with beef. Their Pernil (Pork) is phenomenal as well.

I sometimes wish we could vote out some of the sub par restaurants (::cough:: hard grove) and allow for more diversity. I mean how many pizzerias does downtown really need?

It's NOT called Mi Casa. It is called M.E. Casa, and there is a reason for that. Obviously, it is a "play on words" so it sounds like the possessive pronoun "mi" (mine, in Spanish) but it is actually the initials of the owner (Eddie) and his wife (Maria?) As Eddie tells the story, the M comes first because she comes first in his life, or something along those lines.

In any case, the place is still as great as ever. Took some friends a while ago and they can't wait to go back. Good food, and cheap prices. And, it is BYOB, so you can save on your bill by bringing your own wine.

My cousin and his wife and friends dine there regularly. Although I have yet to experience the food, he always raves about Mi Casa. He also says that if you call before coming, he can create special dishes for your meal.

My wife and I went there last week, and we loved it. I had driven by this place many many times, but I had always thought that it was just a catering service. Someone mentioned to us that it is a restaurant, so we went to check it out. You may think that we have some sort of relation with the owner or something, but let me just say that we do not. We just love good restaurants and we want them to thrive in Jersey City; that's all. Anyway, we fully enjoyed the food and the service.

I wouldn't go with a toddler at peak dining times or a Friday or Sat night. There were a lot of couples there when I went on a Friday night.

Wed night early I took my 5 year old and they were great with her and made her a special plate as they don't have a dedicated kids menu.

We want to try this - do you know if they have high chairs or are family friendly?

Surprisingly, I thought I had reviewed this place a few months back, but I can not find my review. Indeed, this is a local treasure. Unassuming (and, perhaps, uninviting) from the outside, but definitely great food.

As others have mentioned, the owner chef (Eddie) is a great host and his love/passion/dedication to this endeavor shines through. He is welcoming and makes an honest attempt to visit with each table while manning the kitchen and preparing the food.

The food itself is very good, plentiful and very well priced. I hope he succeeds!

I was there last Friday for the second time and I love it as well. Everything is well prepared and his sauces are fantastic (not to mention the deep fried bread).

The service was a bit slow this time, but we were not in a hurry so I didn't mind.

Just wanted to say what a treasure this place is. Sandy and I headed over there this weekend with friends and were once again blown away. Eddie and his staff have created a great menu with delicious food. This restaurant is his passion and the entire evening was a great experience. If you haven't gone - I recommend checking him out. We really need to support our local businesses!

Went for lunch yesterday with a group of 8 and everyone was blown away. The food was delicious, the hospitality was gracious. I called before hand to let them know that we only had 45 minutes to eat and they said no problem. Our table was set when we arrived and they got us in and out but we never felt rushed.

I can't wait to go back for dinner!

you might be a good cook and salesperson but your marketing could use some work!

everytime.

I think a better angle would be, come in and mention JC list and we'll take 10% off your first bill.

I live in dixon mills and am excited to try it out. I spoke with the owner a few months ago and they were supposed to have renovated the exterior, does anyone know why they have not done so yet? I think the reno will improve business as now it looks dark and in desperate need of renewal. I wonder if it was something with the permits.

Went to ME Casa last Saturday and I must say it was really good. It was a nice change from La Conguita or Hardgrove. It's Puerto Rican cuisine and trust me, it's not the same! The owner was pleasant and the service was good. It's a little off the beaten paths of Newark Ave and Grove St., but well worth it. Dixon Mills' residents will be very happy if they can get over the place that was there before.

The new owner was at our Van Vorst Park Association meeting last night. He is very enthusiastic about food and making this new restaurant a positive addition to the neighborhood. His wife is from Jersey City--and now they both live here...

Come to our next meeting! It's where you get all the inside scoop!!

Agreed...
except for the 25% to 50% increase in prices to make all the "recent transplants" comfortable enough to eat there.

Much nicer and minus all the past illegal activities. New owner / chef is renovating interior now and hopes to renovate the exterior to conform to the historic neighborhood once plans are approved by the city.

Saw coming soon sign for ME Casa restaurant by the corner of Varick and Columbus. Sounds promising - serving Puerto Rican and other Latin foods. The menu currently only has their catering options but I'm sure the restaurant is going to have similar options plus more. It will definitely be another great addition to the neighborhood.
