If the tree is on the sidewalk & healthy, you are not supposed to doing anything to it. It is the City's tree. Call Parks & Forestry & let them know.

So what you are stating is as long as they are fixing or repairing it's ok, they get a star on thier paper ?? If the city enforces code their houses should not get to the point of falling down. And now that you asked, on Saturday morning the "handyman" he hired was excavating the base of the tree in front of his house. When the handyman was asked what he was doing the response was" the owner wants me to dig up the dirt and fill the area with cement" Where is the permit for that ? And by the way filing a tree reservoir with cement is wrong it could harm the tree. That pile of dirt sat neat to the tree over night.

Down on the Western Slope this morning a neighbor was having his garage roof worked on. There was drilling, banging, and what sounded like fire crackers being shot off. There was no permit on site either, plus it is Sunday so construction is not permitted. I called both my county committe person and the J.C. police radio room number (201) 547-5477 to report it. It seems that the noise stopped but the other cement work continued. The weekends are good for this kind of behavoir when the city agencies/the powers that be are off for the weekend. I will follow up on this tomorrow Monday morning.

Not everything requires a permit, if he's repairing old and not constructing new. The firecrackers were likely a powder actuated nail gun, it uses what look like 22 blanks to insert a nail in cement or brick. Real time saver vs drilling in lag bolts.

Good luck & don't take any crap. The permit to work Saturdays does not look like your standard yellow permit. It is on letter sized paper with specific date(s) on it.

Construction is allowed on Saturdays by special permit only. Whoever must apply for this special permit with the Building Dept. Dates that the permit covers are specific and under no circumstances ever include a Sunday. Those that get the permit are to work from 9:00AM to 6:00PM.

Call your local police district. They are supposed to have a list of who has the permit. If they do not, you can request an officer to go to the site & ask the foreman to show them the permit. If it cannot be presented, work is to cease.

There is a renovation happening inside/outside the building connected to ours. We deal with the annoying noise (especially the damn beeping that seems to be constant, as if they sit in reverse the whole time) on the weekedays, but this morning (Saturday) we woke up to it. Are they even allowed to do this type of work on a Saturday?? From the JC code book I found this paragraph:

"Construction, repair or alteration of buildings. The erection (including excavation), demolition, alteration or repair of any building other than between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m. on weekdays, except in case of urgent necessity in the interest of public health and safety, and then only with the permission of the Construction Official. Such a permit may be granted for a period not to exceed three (3) days or less while the emergency continues, and such permit may be renewed for periods of three (3) days or less while the emergency continues. If the Construction Official determines that the public health and safety will not be impaired by the erection, demolition, alteration or repair of any building or the excavation of streets and highways between the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m., and, if he or she shall further determine that loss or inconvenience would result to any party in interest, he or she may grant permission for such work to be done within the hours of 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. upon application being made at the time the permit for the work is awarded or during the progress of the work. [106]"

Which does not mention weekends at all. Has anyone had a similar issue and know if it is legal or not?
