I am sure that the perpetrators of the 7/21 London attacks in 2005 would not have been apprehended as quickly (within 8 days of the attacks) or possibly at all without the use of CCTV cameras which no doubt also aided in securing the convictions. Of course, the 7/7 bombers were all killed in the previous attacks, however, they were also identified within hours of the actual attacks by CCTV cameras which must have aided in the investigation of those attacks. I don't think grammatical errors are particularly indicative of intellectual failure in my understanding of the word; they are just grammatical errors. I am unable to determine whether the poster just made a mistake or whether s/he genuinely doesn't know the difference between "your" and "you're". Knowing the difference doesn't prevent you from making the mistake although you would probably be much less likely to make it. I don't have enough information in a single isolated occurrence to decide which it is and I am surprised by anybody that claims to be able to tell the difference. The more immediate the form of communication, the more likely we are to make mistakes. Would someone apply the same rigor to another's speech or text messages as some people seem to want to apply to a bulletin board entry? Try it and see how it works for you? Attempts to use the presence of grammatical error to winning an argument look fairly desperate and not beautiful.

The cameras will not deter crime. Criminals are stupid and desperate and probably have no clue that the cameras are there. Yes, the cameras are for gathering evidence and capturing images of suspects. Recently the cops were able to get the suspects in the Newport Mall stabbing based on video imagery.

Maybe now we'll get more detailed descriptions of suspects than what the JJ prints today, "suspect is described as human, wearing pants. call the police if you have info."

Wonderful. They don't work in Newark, they don't work in the UK. There's no reason whatsoever to think they'll work here. It's fun watching the mayor throw endless piles of money into his own intellectual black hole.
Speaking of intellectual failure, it's "you're", not "your".

six cameras to be installed along West Side Avenue between Communipaw and Clarke avenues.
At a meeting last month, Mayor Jerramiah T. Healy said the city allocated $300,000 for six cameras to go up in the area on West Side Avenue, but when the project was put out to bid, the bids came in around $100,000 over budget. Donnelly said the new bids came in ?far less? than last time and that he will continue to make sure the long-awaited cameras go in as soon as possible. Susan Mariquit, a resident of Boyd Avenue, was relieved to hear cameras would soon be up and running. Two years ago, she said her son was a victim of a robbery and assault by a gang while walking in the area. ?I?m hoping now with a set of eyes watching at all times it will deter anyone thinking about committing a crime,? Mariquit said. http://www.nj.com/jjournal-news/index ... p_of_west_side_resid.html
