Lived on that block (6th between Erie and Jersey) for eight years now. Absolutely fine. Parking not a real problem unless you come home late, several good eateries within easy walking distance, *very* quiet block interior.

6th and Manila (Grove)?

It's probably about the same distance to Grove St Path. Pavonia Path and the light rail at both Harsimus Cove and Newport mall.

Pluses:
- You look on the 7th & Erie Police station from your back yard
- Close to Hamilton park
- Some nice small stores on Erie including Basics coffeeshop and Newport Pharmacy
- Close to Newport mall
Minuses:
- Limited on-street parking. One of the busier/worse streets downtown.
- Can get crowded during nearby little league baseball games.
- Avoid basement apartments - they may be prone to flooding.
- Might be a little intimidating walking there late nights from Grove Path. (Though you can spend a few bucks and get a cab from Grove Path if its late/dark).

Overall it's a great location.

That area is fine. Up until a few years ago that block, especially between Erie and Grove, was a bit downtrodden. There were lots of longtime section 8ers etc.on that block. 20 years ago the whole area was in an uproar after a crazy cop killed Maximo Cintron who had been tinting his car windows under the old train trestle. I played hoops and softball with Maximo a couple times and he was a nice enough Guy. Sharpton even showed up for the outrage marches. Crazy times back then. That area seems rather tame now.

Other than traffic on 6th that can be a little backed up and noisy because of the lights, this is indeed a pretty desirable location. The embankment right across provides privacy and it won't be demolished soon. If you have first choice, take the bedroom on the back

This is in the middle of the safest part of town, you won't find a better location in Jersey City.

For all you JC'ers out there. I'm looking at a place on 6th between Erie and Jersey. Can anyone tell me about this area? I realize JC is a city, but what is this area like in terms of safety, quality of life, and walk to/from PATH (day and night?)
