well, what do you expect for $3? Sawadee is an actual sit down restaurant.

It's always a bit sad to see business close down. Jack's Toy Shop is gone as well.

I noticed the other day that Village Thai is closed.

Haha it's so funny to see the discrepancy between what people think is good. Some people on this thread say it's amazing, others say it's awful.

sadly this place is terrible, we ordered thai basil with chicken and BBQ beef, both with rice. the beef was very tough and the chicken had virtually no taste. very disappointing, we won't be back...

It's pretty dang good. For $3 you can get a big, delicious sandwich, and there are larger meals for a bit more but still very cheap. Owned by the same people as Sawadee, I believe. I highly recommend when you want a cheap eat.

Hey guys,

I'm looking for the contact info for that new Thai place on Jersey Ave, near Wayne. It took over a small coffee house a few months ago - and I can't seem to find anything on the internet.

Any ideas?

This place was really good, and amazingly cheap. Me and my date had: a bowl of coconut chicken soup, pork dumplings, basil chicken entree, chicken curry with rice entree, and a diet Coke. The total was $19.

The owner is friendly, and he is also the waiter and chef. The only negative is, as somebody else posted, you will come out of there smelling like the food, but it's not a bad smell.

So popped inane spoke with the owner today. The menu posted there now is temporary ~ with the real menu on the way by w/end.

No selections whatsoever for a veg head like me but he promised that tofu & veggies will be on the menu.

He ran a Thai restaurant in the upper west side on Manhattan, called "Sawdee," years ago ~ there's a photo oh he and his family proudly standing outside of it on the wall.

He's the brother of the owners of our JC Sawdee restaurant and also related to the owners of More (love, love, love this food!) and Box (who are renovating the interior and redoing the menu ~ maybe it was just me but I found their menu to be stupidly confusing, so this is all good).

I wished him success and told him that we're all so psyched that he's here and are ready to sample his menu at the weekend ~ yay!

Am I the only one who actually eats at Sawadee when I go for asian in downtown? I go to a 440 joint for Japanese and Newark ave for Indian.

It's utterly amazing how many Asian food places are downtown. There has to be at least 20 (probably more), in one square mile.

I could be ok with that if the concentration wasn't so heavily skewed towards overly-Americanized Thai and Chinese and bland Pan-Asian fusion that went out of style eight years ago. Where's a decent Korean place downtown? A Japanese izakaya-type place? Dim sum? Even Indian is relatively lacking downtown, though that's slightly more forgivable as Journal Square provides a wealth of options.

Grand Sichuan and Saigon Cafe are shining beacons in the downtown Asian scene, I wish more restaurants would take cues on how they do things.

Yes, about a week or so.

Similar taste to the one on Morris. I'll ask when I stop in again. Googled Village Thai and there are a few in NYC also. Again, not sure if they're the same owners/franchise.

Located on Jersey Between CCD and Wayne Street.

Had lunch there today for two people plus soft drinks and spent $10.50. Food was very good. I had the coconut curry chicken and rice, and my girlfriend had a roast pork sandwich.

Great place for a quick bite to eat.
