Oh and I do think it's good that you posted this in the first place. I like to know what is going on in this neighborhood so i will ask around to see if anyone knows anything. Thanks for letting us know.

So first you jump down my throat for saying that i thought it was fire engines ( which btw I am 99% sure that the portside fire alarm went off last night). Then you call us arrogant snots for saying that JC does have a lot of crime (there WAS a gang war last summer btw), while saying things like "better class of people in colder weather" and "dregs of society". I mean COME ON, pot and kettle?

Where exactly is this line of cold vs warm better class of people fall? Cause I don't know what you are talking about.

I saw fire engines too.

The intersection is down by the water....

It's true look around the world usually cold weather countries have a better class of people who don't cause trouble. You all know exactly what I'm talking about.

Everyone has to relax! Paulus Hook is a great neighborhood and Downtown Jersey City as a whole is only getting better. Yes, there is crime and there always will be an element. it is up to us to observe, call the police and report. The more we as residents get involved, the less crime there be. Don't just be bystanders, get involved!

If you want to know what happened so badly, why not ask a neighbor or call the police department? Crime happens everywhere, Paulus Hook is no exception, as you know. I've seen busts go down in the parking lot next to my building. It comes with the charm of living in a city. :)

What street/intersection did this occur on?

Not to be outdone by Paulus Hook; I noticed that police had blocked off 6th Street between Jersey and Erie today around noon. Police were on the roof of one of the rowhouses. Don't know why but I can't imagine it was to deliver a check from Ed McMahon...

I am renting - i thank God I never bought here - its very dark and scary - and there is a certain bad element that is coming back out now that the weather isn't freezing....

I never understand this, what exactly did you expect when moving to Jersey City? You live in a small bubble downtown thats nice , do you honestly think "the bad element" dosnt go down there?

I heard it too. I thought it was fire engines. Lots of them.

One thing you have to understand, many thugs, dealers and questionable activities use the pier and the quietness of a block to do dirty deeds and Paulus Hook is the perfect spot for these criminal to hide. I agree it's going downhill silently. This area is way too dark, way too quiet and not too far away from the projects up hill.

If I were you I rather rent in this area than buy at least if things get really bad you can move without losing your shirt.

how does one incident mean the area is going downhill. This is a city, there will be crime from time to time. If you cannot bear that small inconvenience (especially in your area), than move out.

I'm pretty sure I saw a fire engine outside my building last night. I wasn't questioning what you saw, no need to be snitty and defensive.

If you read what I wrote - I SAW the police cars and SAW people getting arrested.

If you don't know, please don't reply. This neighborhood is going downhill quickly and nobody reports about it. EVER

does anybody know what happaned in Paulus Hook last night around 10:00 through 1:00 a.m. I was walking my dog and saw undercover cops busting about 3 black men and puting them in an unmarked car - then took off with sirens blazing.

the other police cars seemed to be going towards the old Sandbar area.

Of the course the paper mentions nothing, but it was a good three hours of on-off police cars and sirens.

Anybody know? Thanks.
