The JC/Hudson County machine wants the lousy streets and neighbrohoods because if it was cleaned up and wealthy like Brooklyn Heights they'd get voted out in no time...

The day that it costs as much to live in "the Jersey City where the rest of my fellow citizens live" as it does to live Downtown, I will join you in your sarcastic sentiment mocking the concerns of Downtowners.

Because of priorities, and probably because they are walking a beat elsewhere such as crime ridden areas in the south end of J.C. east of JFK Blvd.

Careful what you ask for. Grovepath does a good job of posting where to find the bling outside of downtown :)

Frankly I'd be happy if I saw a cop sitting in his car, on Wayne Street, every day, eating a donut. JCPD, just show us a pulse on that street.

I also appreciate the cultural diversity of JC, but like Bill suggested, it is no mystery that cities that are more diverse tend to have higher crime. I get all of that, but what's disappointing is that it costs the same to live in Downtown JC as it does in Hoboken, and you just don't really see this stuff happening in Hoboken. It costs MORE to live in Downtown JC than it does in Weehawken (generally), and you don't really see this stuff happening in Weehawken.

Now I would rather live in Downtown JC than those other cities, but how long before other people realize that they can live a similar urban, walkable lifestyle, for the same or less cost, in other places without having to worry about their safety? With the ultimate result being, Downtown JC descending back into a not-so-nice neighborhood.

I realize that this sounds kind of "sky is falling", but it might not be too far from the truth.

Honestly, maybe the prices of homes in Downtown JC have gotten a little too high for what you get here. Who the F wants to pay $1.8 Million to live in one of those brownstones near where this nonsense occurs on Wayne Street?

This is exactly what I've been saying since the dawn of time.

Again, I ask the question - what is JC doing wrong?

The first potential answer that pops into my head is that the police department might not be doing as great a job as they could be.

Any knucklehead knows that this BS on Wayne Street has been going on for many years. Why haven't the cops caught on? Where are they??? If I was Tom Comey, I'd have an officer working the Wayne Street beat, on foot, every F'ing night. Why in the world hasn't that happened???

As told by an actual witness (my friend who called 911) it was not a random act It was a domestic dispute...the people came out of the building across from the mansion and were arguing. They knew each other. The victim was stabbed in the ear and had an extremely bloody wound...which bled all over my friend's white car!!! The fire dept. came and hosed it down and disinfected it.

Wow....... Perhaps Jersey City isn't for you then.

I love the diversity here, so much that I have lived here for 5 years. I am just not incredulous when there is crime as what can you expect with such a high proportion of criminals in the city.

Correlation isn't causation, you racist dickbag, and income is a better predictor of crime than race by far. Jersey City has a population about 5 times the size of Weehawken and Hoboken combined, and a lower median income.

Large cities generally have higher crime rates than small towns, especially if they have lower median incomes, regardless of ethnic make-up.

I think it's a bit of an understatement to say someone got "simply" beat up. They were attacked by three men. This person is a victim of a violent attack by a bunch of animals. Although downtown JC is a great place to live, greater JC it is a huge city. Downtown is a target for the rest of the city. (it's obvious where the money is). Also, there is sec. 8 projects right on York st. I have been attacked at knifepoint in DTJC. I recommend always paying attention to your surroundings. Always keep your head on a swivel. If something feels off, it probably is. Go with your instincts.

There is an emergency meeting tonight at 7pm at the Barrow Mansion to address the ongoing issues on Wayne St. The police captain of the East District as well as someone from councilman Fulop?s office.

Please attend as we need a good turn out to get attention from the police and politicians.

As you well know Wayne St (and Ramos Park) has not been cleaned up by the police as has Hamilton Park and Van Vorst Park over the years. Just over the last year there has been a shooting, constant deadly fights, and the usual drug dealing on Wayne St.

We all have a stake as residents and with the Rosina condos things will get better but it needs to happen NOW!!! To the person who has just bought in the Rosina... confront Pronti (the owners) with the issue. They have indicated that they may pay for security cameras in the park but that was many months ago. If they want a decent return on their investment then they should also join the effort to fix the situation!

I will say though, that I have literally never, not once, felt unsafe in any part of Downtown, at any hour...so these reports are always a bit jarring.

So what? South Orange has some shotty areas around Newark and costs around the same, yet you don't here about nearly as much crime in SO as you do in Newark or Irvington for that matter.

Jersey City man assaulted by three

Monday, December 06, 2010

A Downtown Jersey City man was jumped from behind and kicked during an assault by three men Friday night, police reports said.

Police were called to Wayne Street near Jersey Avenue on the report of an assault at 8:19 p.m. and spoke to a man with a cut on his face, reports said.

The victim said he was walking on Wayne Street when three men jumped him from behind, punched him, and hit him in his head with an unknown object, reports said.

When he fell, they began kicking him, reports said.

I make this assumption because a lot of complaining goes on here about everyday petty city problems. (excluding the stabbings/shootings)

Ah that's pretty messed up. I make beer runs around 8pm-9pm usually to Jersey Wine and Spirits walking from Wayne and Grove.

Can we change the title of this to "Wayne street beat down" instead? It says nothing about a gun or knife unless the actual paper does.

I don't post on here very often but every once in a while check in to see what's going on in the neighborhood. Am I living in a freakin bubble????

I live on Jersey Ave, near wonder bagel which makes wayne and jersey ave, where this occured, my backyard. I have lived here for 3 years now and have never seen any type of crime occur... The only thing that I have seen on a regular basis is a couple of drunks who hang on the corner near normans pharmacy... I just choose to avoid them at all costs. At the time of this stabbing, I was actually walking around in that exact vicinity when this supposedly occurred as I was picking up some spirits at Jersey wine and still had no idea until I read this post... I am blown away by this news and am questioning whether I should even be surprised considering everyone's responses claim this to be the norm for this area.
