Thought I'd update this thread with info about Republic Wireless, a Sprint reseller plan my son has had since December. He has a MotoX phone he bought for $300, and we pay $25/month for unlimited calls, texts & 3G. The trick is the phones use wifi rather than network when they're in a hotspot they've been logged into, like at home or office. He's thrilled with the state of the art phone, we're thrilled with the cost.

I really want this model to succeed and stick it in the eye of ATT & Verizon for ripping people off. Supposedly they're going to be adding the less expensive MotoG sometime this spring.

Full disclosure: My wife and I use a $0.10/min prepays.

Sprint has been the only provider I have ever had, and I have never really had a problem with my service or dropped calls. As far as phone go I have the EVO4G and my wife has the EVO3D, both are great phone. The EVO4G is a little out dated at this point though. If you can spring for the Samsung Galaxy S2, thats what I would get if I could. Or if you can wait a few weeks go for the Samsung Galaxy Nexus.

Still on Sprint, still get great service and still pay a lot less than I would on any other carrier. If you're making the switch, you may want to hustle because word is they're going to cut the unlimited data plan, but may grandfather it for existing users.

Does anyone have any update as to how Sprint wireless coverage is in the area? I've had Verizon for over a decade in the Northern NJ area and have not had many complaints. But I'm considering making a long-overdue move to a smartphone, and comparing carriers.

Sprint has the phones I like and the prices for services are cheaper than Verizon as well. Do you truly get what you pay for?

I'd primarily be using the phone in NYC, JC and Northern NJ.

I have an Evo on Sprint and don't have any problems with dropped calls. I get a 4G signal when I'm outside and easily connect to my home wireless network while I'm in my apartment (or I can use the 3G network).

The Evo is fantastic. The only thing I'm not fully satisfied with is the battery life. If you're out all day and using battery-heavy features like GPS, you may find that it drains pretty quickly.

I've been a Sprint customer for 10 years and got the Evo in early June. I've never had a dropped call nor lack of service with Sprint (except for in half of my parents house in rural Oregon). My friends with AT&T on the other hand, do not get service in my building (two blocks from Grove St PATH). THey literally have to go outside to make a call. Love the Evo. The Sprint plan is $79.99/month with unlimited everything (don't be misled by the $69.99 ads...there's a $10 'surcharge' for certain phones). Still better than many other plans.

I went from Blackberry, briefly to Palm Pre (both on Verizon) and then to the EVO. I really don't have any complaints, it's fast, the screen looks awesome, the camera is solid and it's an Android phone so it's got tons of apps. I've never used the Samsung or iPhone, so I can't say with certainty how it compares. One big selling point was that the monthly cost of the EVO is much lower than anything on Verizon or the iPhone. They do stick you with the additional $10 premium data fee (stupid), but at the end of the day I pay about $85 for unlimited calls, unlimited data, unlimited messaging, phone insurance, and everything I need.

I have Sprint as well, and never ever drop calls ok well hardly ever like maybe once every other month or something.

I have the Samsung Instinct and it SUCKS I hate the living crap out of it. So I would pretty much not recommend that Samsung phone, I am going to upgrade to the newest Blackberry, I am over the whole touch screen sensation, it got old real fast.

I am debating whether to get the Evo, the Samsung phones or the Iphone. Any recommendations for best overall value, functionality. I do not really see why I should pay a small fortune for an Iphone if I don't need to.

I'm also a Sprint customer with the EVO. My service (downtown) is exceptional. In my house I have full 4G service at almost all times. Around the metropolitan area I really haven't had any problems, only the occasional dead spot as I go west, but a dropped call is very rare.

The EVO is an awesome phone, I'm really happy with it. I get lots of compliments on it from other Android users and also lots of iPhone users (which says a lot). The only suggestion I have is to take the time to work with the settings so that you maximize battery life. A lot of the default settings (like the GPS) are set to be a drain on the battery.

I picked up the EVO last week at the sprint store in the mall. Try to work with the younger girl there. She's very helpful and easy to work with.

I've been a sprint customer for 8 years or so and they used to have lots of problems with signal/dropped calls etc. They've fixed those issues with new towers or something. I never drop calls anymore, haven't for many years now. Service inside big buldings is kinda spotty but still seems way better thatn AT&T.

As for the EVO, it's amazing. Still trying to figure some things out on it but it's a great phone.

How is their cell phone/customer service in downtown JC. Has it improved? I used to hear only bad things about them. How is the EVO?
