People that file for a tax abatement get it because it is new construction (trying to lure you in by the City) - However, that does not mean they do not pay taxes. The abatement is a small percentage taken off your taxes every year. It is nowhere near 50% or anything like that. It helps but you're still paying a big chunk of the original tax when they do the assessment.

I presume none of these tax rebates, if indeed they still exist, are applicable to anyone in an abated property because they do not pay "taxes" as defined by the state.

So if Christie got rid of the tax rebates early in his administration, thus the first thing he did was raise taxes. He didn't wait very long to become a hypocritical liar, did he?

Yes, that is correct, if your salary income is over $75,000 then you do not get a rebate.....I live in Hudson County and got the rebate application yesterday.

Do a google search on "2009 Homestead Benefit Application" and you'll find all the answers you need to your questions. Hope this helps!

I read on the their website that the applications for Hudson County are being mailed out Sept. 15th and to call if you do not receive it in a week. I believe there is a salary cap...household income of over 75k does not get any rebate?? Anyone know if that is correct? The # is 1800-238-1233...if you don't get it within a week...call.

From what I understand if you are a homeowner you will receive your benefit as a credit on your tax property bill for the 2nd quarter in 2011. So it will be applied to your tax bill due May 1, 2011. You are suppose to receive a notice from the tax collectors office showing the credit when your tax bill comes.

If you are a tenant you will not receive any rebate.

So there are no longer any checks being mailed directly to you.....too bad, I always looked forward to a little extra $.

Hi.

Got this in the mail today.

I thought I read something where Chris Christie suspended or overturned the Homestead rebate for 2009.

If so, this mailing was a major waste of money by NJ.

Anyone got the 411 on this? Should I apply or is it a waste of time?

Filing Deadline is Novemeber 1, 2010. But if its been canceled, why bother.

Thanks.

FG

I filled out the form last year. They never bothered to even get back to me. I would have qualified then but not now.

It just irks me that they didn't even send a response letter.

Link to Website & Delivery Dates for Applications

2009 Homestead Benefit (Rebate) Program

The State Budget for FY 2011 contains modifications to the Homestead Rebate Program. Applications for the 2009 homeowner benefit will be mailed to eligible homeowners in September.

Tenants will not receive a 2009 rebate.

Instead of receiving a check in the summer or fall, eligible homeowners will receive their homestead benefit for 2009 as a credit on the property tax bill for the second quarter of 2011. The filing process remains the same.

Eligibility requirements for the 2009 homeowner benefit remain the same as last year.

Will the rebates be issued this year? When do the applications get sent out? I could have sworn I'd get them in July and have my rebate would come sometime in the fall.
