went to tommy's the other night....gelato was great....i have no idea what anyone is talking about with portion size...it was plenty for the $$. and tommy is one great dude....personable, funny and entertaining!

great backyard patio, too! looks like you can rent it out (saw a happy birthday decoration on the back fence)....complete with comfy outdoor chairs, benches, tables, outdoor lighting, plants, shrubs, etc...tommy says he's going to enclose a portion of it for the winter.

At tommys now, and I can say that one scoop is actually two scoops of gelato. Very tasty.

I'll go back in a couple of weeks. The small cup I got last week was very small-- barely one scoop. I'd really like to see a new business last around here, but won't spend my money there if I feel like the prices are unreasonable.

I wish the best for this place but $3.50 for a small cup - wow. It's good gelato but not great. Also, no place to sit inside and the location will make it tough for this place to survive in the winter. Time will tell.

Just went back for second time at 9:30 and the place was hopping with customers. Awesome because I always get nervous about businesses that open on side streets - but it seems to be a destination which is great. And it seems to those who were commenting on non-standard sizes, that they have implemented ice cream scoops...anyways i am sure they will work out any minor kinks - place is fab.

Gotcha. For the record, my 1-scoop cup was teeming, and dripping over the edges. Very large scoop.

I didn't notice until I finished mine and my wife still had twice as much as I started out with! But if I go back, I will definitely check as we receive them.
I love a good confrontation but only when its on fair grounds. Complaining with an empty cup in front of a packed house seemed like bad odds.

It actually has nothing to do with that. Portion sizes are different at every establishment. If I am unhappy with their serving size and I prefer the serving size of another establishment, I'll spend my money there. I suppose if they were the only business of their kind in the area, I would mention something about the size. But-- that's not the case. I'll just walk a little farther to another shop.

I finally walked over there on my lunch break. The mango gelato was amazing-- but I encountered the scoop nazi and received a very tiny scoop for $3.75. The people were nice and the gelato was wonderful, but just too small a serving for the price. I think I'll stick with Torico's.

I tried this place last night after eating at Lisbon. Tommy Two Scoops, who is a character, showed us around passionately, and showed us the back garden area, which is really nice.

The gelato was good -- I had the coffee flavor. The maple syrup/brown sugar/bacon was pretty interesting.

It's good to have another Tommy in the neighborhood, lol.

Very cute place. They need to get better help, though. Was there one night last week and the very young girls behind the counter didn't know which cone was which, they were slow, and when my boyfriend and I ordered two small cups of gelato, he had about twice as much in his cup than I had in mine. Not rocket science, really, to know how much gelato should go into a 'small' cup. At least put the same amount in the two cups for one customer! But it tasted good. And we bought a small bag of cookies which were good too.

Same thing happened with me and my daughter. I got a cone with one scoop, then ordered a small cup for the kid and she got like twice as much.

When they first gave me my cone she started holding her hands out "This is mine daddy!" She was just starting to get pouty when she saw the portion she was getting, and her eyes lit up and mouth dropped wide open. So despite the bizarre service it was worth it on cuteness value alone.

I also ordered a large ice tea and they filled it up about 75% of the way. When I asked them to actually fill it up they did, though the server explained that she had some "bad experience" with customers who complained that it was too full and therefore spilling. Not as much entertainment value in that one.

Went this past Sunday evening and ordered a single cone.
There was no gelato down in the cone, just one small scoop placed on top. It was slightly larger than a golf ball.

My wife however ordered a single in a cup and received twice as much as I did. Strange....

We had two different servers as well.

Seems like an easy enough thing to sort out, just hope it happens soon.

BTW, I loved the gelato, great stuff and great addition to the hood.

LOL that was actually Bill. But I did see that one of the women was a stingy server too, but I couldn't tell you which one. Next time we go, I'll keep an eye out and report back. :)

That is funny because the same thing happened to us! We ordered for our child and the two of us and my husband's sccop was much smaller than ours. I'm not sure if different people scooped them because I wasn't the one who ordered it.

They really need to be more consistent, I did see one woman "scoop" and she wasn't filling up the spoon at all. We'll try it again as the gelato was pretty tasty, but I hope they are hearing all of this.

I've been there 2x (yesterday & Fri) and haven't witnessed the tiny portions mentioned - they are single - normal size scoops - took several minutes to eat.

Mr. JCI and I went there last Sunday, after they had their BBQ. I asked for only one scoop but actually ended up with a lot of gelato on my sugar cone. Sadly, Mr. JCI was complained repeatedly about his really skimpy portion while we were sitting in the backyard patio. I figured at the time that the inconsistency was due to opening kinks (and decided not to mention it here or on wiredjc.com), but it seems that other people have been getting skimped on.

I'll mention this (particularly the other comments here) to Tommy next time we go there, and hopefully he'll respond positively. He seemed genuinely interested in getting customer feedback, so I wouldn't write him and Tommy Two Scoops off too quickly.

There was a girl behind us who asked for two scoops.. and when the server went to hand her the cup, the customer said that she wanted two scoops, not one. The server then filled more so the cup was almost full. I'm not sure if they did it because they customer looked at them like they were crazy when they tried to pass off a half filled small cup as 'two scoops', or if they genuinely didn't hear her.

Sorry for all the info... I just really want to love this place!! I hope it was just a mishap today and this isn't the standard going forward.

A moderately small portion for $3.50? Yes, count me in. This miniscule taste test portion? Pass.

On that mini taste portion, maybe thats why they give you a tasting spoon to eat their ice cream, they seem to go hand in hand. Hopefully he does well here it seems in today's market with overhead being what it is owning an ice cream parlor can get expensive to operate. I bought the 2 scoop portion spent under $5 but it was ample enough wish it was a bit more but this is the cost of doing business today in the ice cream world. Hey you don't even get a half gallon container of store bought anymore, its 48oz.

Ok, I hate to say this after my previous rave review... but I am having serious second thoughts about this place. The gelato is awesome, not doubt about that... but they have got to be insane to charge 3.50 for about 3 bites of gelato. I'm not even kidding! I totally understand smaller portions, since it seems to be a high quality product. But are they nuts?? I swear the amount I got was about 1/8 cup, and that is being generous. At first I thought it was just my particular server that was doing some major skimping, but my roommate had a different person and got even less than I did!
