Can the fine citizens of JC list suggest a sushi place that has good good, and won't cost me an arm and a leg?

I live in Journal Square, so I don't know the good downtown spots, other than Sushi Tango.

Thanks in advance.

Honshu Lounge on Montgomery & Greene!! My absolute favorite sushi place...decent prices, very high quality sushi and a great selection. When I moved out of downtown, I was afraid I wouldn't be able to get delivery anymore, but I was wrong! Komegashi is also delicious, but definitely pricier...a nice place for a date.

If you're looking for cheap sushi that's surprisingly good, try Ashiya on 440. No frills, super cheap, and tasty. Not a place to go if you're looking to have a nice evening out, but good if you're just craving some sushi.

and IMO, Sushi Tango is not good at all. In my experience, the places I've mentioned, are all far superior to the sushi I've gotten from ST.

I had some excellent sushi at Komegashi Too in Newport a few weekends ago, but it was on the pricey side.

I strongly suggest Robongi. They have one location on Washington St in Hoboken and another inside the ferry slip in Weehawken. My wife and I love it there. The pieces are big as are the rolls. We usually order 26 pieces of Sashimi and 2 rolls and the bill comes out to around $60.00.

I do like the new location in Weehawken better due to the parking.

I've been to Honshu several times and the quality of sushi is good. I usually split a sushi platter for 2 and have always been satisfied. The staff is also very attentive. It's a 5 minute walk from the Exchange Place Path.

I've had great sushi at the original Komegashi on Montgomery and Warren as well.

The only bad sushi I've had in the area is Komegashi Too in Newport.

Sorry, but I think Komegashi is totally overrated. The sushi is decent, but not nearly good enough to justify the price. I'll give Honshu Lounge a try

i usually order from honshu as well... had some issues w komegashi (don't know normal or too) but when they delivered they would pack my soup w my sushi order and everything ended up lukewarm which isn't what I wanted -- especially at a higher price

if you are just ordering rolls and things MORE is ok as well

I will also sometimes order from MARU or sushi lounge in hoboken (with sushi lounge being great for funky out there combos but overpriced on straight sashimi type plates)

Another enthusiastic vote for Honshu Lounge. My wife and I are HUGE fans and try to visit at least once every two weeks. The sushi is really top notch (fresh, with very nice presentation) and the service is very attentive, as someone else already mentioned. As far as prices is concerned, they are very good as well. Not expensive, just right.

And, to top it all off, they are a BYOB restaurant! So, bring a nice bottle of wine, or sake, and enjoy a great meal at this fine JC establishment.

I rather like JC Sakura Sushi on Manila between Bay and First. They do a very, very nice seafood noodle soup

I'll jump in in support of Sushi Tango, I think their sushi is excellent and I've never had a meal there that was anything less than great.

(It doesn't hurt that I only live a block away so I can have a few cocktails without worrying about how I'm going to get home.)

+1 for Honshu for both delivery and eat-in. In my opinion, the best sushi in JC.

Muscle Maker Grill has the freshest best tasting sushi around!! Every customer that has walked out of MMG and ate the sushi said its the best they have had in a while and the price poing is reasonable!!

The fish is delivered freshe twice a week unlike most sushi rest. that recieve it only once a week.

were located at 286 Washington street next to 5 guys and unos.

In addition to the sushi bar we have a full menu of Wraps, Salads, Pastas, Entrees and Smoothies.

Yeah, I think Sush Tango is generally underrated - the dining area inside isn't anything special (some of the artwork is cool), but the food is always great.

Komegashi is my favorite. The Grand Banks - right down the block (Montgomery and Washington) has pretty good sushi as well.

Definitely Sushi Tango.

They have the freshest Yellowtail, even on days when the fish markets are closed. Apparently they have "a source."

I love it.

Sushi Tango? seriously? I guess I'll have to try it. I always went to Komogashi; a couple of times to Honshu. Grand Banks seriously blows, though. I cannot believe they still exist.

I will have to give Sushi Tango a try.

I don't know...granted, I've only had Sushi Tango once, but it was mediocre enough that I haven't gone since and I have sushi very often.

another vote for honshu here, for reasons already named. i hasten to add that they also deliver to journal square even tho their take-out menu says they only deliver to downtown areas. oh and you can pay via credit card when getting delivery too.

I tried Sushi Tango once and didn't like it. Same with JC Sakura. Honshu is by far the best, in my opinion. Komegashi is also decent. The one on Montgomery is better and cheaper than the Newport one, but both are decent. A new Japanese place is opening in 50 Columbus, but it looks to be more American-style. It would be nice to get a Japanese owned Japanese restaurant in Jersey City.

Komegashi on Montgomery. Ask for the off-menu Mountain roll. It's delicious.

Komegashi is great, but expensive. I've been to More, but i'm not a fan of hybrid sushi/thai resturants. JC Sakura is near my home, but the service is horrendous and the food mediocre. I have rarely been treated as poorly as I had at JC Sakura.

For sushi, I would suggest you travel up to Edgewater to Mitsuwa supermarket. It's a huge authentic Japanese market (one of four in the country), and has regular bus service to it from Port Authority. It's a 2o minute drive, or a 40 min lightrail/bus ride (transfer at Lincoln Harbor to the 156-158 bus). It's well worth the trip.

Komegashi if you absolutely have to have the fabulous Green Tea Ice cream for dessert. Try the Temaki sushi boat - your choice of six pieces of sashimi, seaweed to roll it, avocado, cucumber and sushi rice. the fact you roll it yourself makes the seaweed fresh and crunchy. They always have seasonal specialties such as Toro(2-3 grades), Amaebi, baby mackerel, Wild Salmon and live Scallops(yum)

Honshu if you like BYO. Sushi is as good as Komegashi (although not much in the way of seasonal specialties). One can save quite a few bucks when you bring your own bottle of Sake.
