-Yeah...Starbucks is open..but it closes at 11 or 12
-I don't think that a pub is what I would be looking for
-Flamingo is still open...I guess I could go to a diner if it really got that bad...

thanks all..

Does Coles St cafe still have outside seating? That would be prime. But I doubt there's anyplace open ALL night. Is Starbucks?

Ok, so here is the deal, the summer is coming and it gets super hot in my apt. Sure I could run my a/c all day and night...but what I would rather do is grab my laptop aand Wacom Tablet and sit in a cafe some place and work there all night.
Does anyone know of a refreshingly cool cafe in that area that is open late where I can work? I can go to Starbucks, but I would rather go to a local place and support small biz. Suggestions?

Hi,

I can recommend a place on Tuesdays-The Culinary Cafe. Every Tuesday The Culinary Conference Center is open to the public for breakfast 8am-10am and lunch 12 noon - 1:30pm. It is pretty quiet for breakfast and you can get a great buffet breakfast for $5!

The building is completely wireless so you can come with your laptop and have breakfast ann/or lunch and study.

The Culinary Conference Center is at 161 Newkirk St in Journal Square. 2 blocks from the PATH station.

The Conference Center is on the campus of Hudson County Community College. Hope to see you there!

Can't make someone go to the library if they don't want to. But each library branch is equipped with free wi-fi and the main branch on Jersey and Montgomery is as convenient a location as any as those suggested.

I spent a few hours on Saturday afternoon at Legal Grounds to get some work done. Free, reliable, fast wifi, great sandwiches and coffee, and enough (somewhat rickety) tables such that I didn't feel bad sitting there all afternoon. I'll definitely go back.

One question, though: do they always close at 4pm?

yea, the Warehouse attracts a lot of profs/grad students so it's the best spot to study...the ambiance is real cool, the are where it is located, at the Powerhouse Arts District, is isolated, to you are sure to have quiet time. they have free wifi there.

It's really fantastic, hip and very low prices for quality food and coffee and teas.

I've been wondering about this place I thought it was some organization or school for a special program of people in need. Do they have an actual coffee shop that is open to the public ? Or is it their cafeteria for a school's use. Could you paint a better picture in depicting the atmosphere there ?

I've only been to their cafe once but it was really impressive. It's a fairly large space with high ceilings and modern, white furniture. It could probably seat 15-20 people. It looked like served typical cafe fair - coffee, tea and pastries.

The other part of the building holds classes - painting, drawing, acting, dance, etc. I just found their website and they appear to be religiously affiliated.

Like others said, Legal Grounds on Grand is great. It has a nice warm, neighborly vibe and is quiet enough for studying. I got a sandwich there for the first time today, and it was awesome.. the 101er. Yum!

You know what I forgot about this place. This is probably his best bet, quiet, and not to congested. I notice they get a rush hour crowd in the mornings along with the St. Peters Prep students starting their day there as well. Again not sure where this OP is traveling from (and to) but if the venue is the first priority then give it a shot. Don't be afarid to have a bank of options available. And when the weather gets warmer the OP should get a folding bike to bounce around town and coffee houses with books in hand.

van houtte coffee on greene at montgomery would probably be good - free wifi, and there's no one ever in there when i've been there (plus, they're open til 10p every night supposedly).

not sure about parking around there, though...

I don't know what time of day or where in J.C. you're located but try Basic it's casual, rustic, and reasonably priced. They probably won't throw you out either. It's in the Downtown section of J.C. on the corner of 8th & Erie down the block from the park across from the old St. Francis Hospital.

I recently moved to Jersey City and am taking classes, so I'm trying to find a good place to study. These are some of the things I'm looking for:

- free wifi
- where they won't mind if I sit and study for a few hours
- background noise okay, but not too hectic
- reasonable parking availability
- decent coffee/tea/food

If anyone has any suggestions for places in the Jersey City/Hoboken/Edgewater area, I'd really appreciate it. I'm also open to other places that aren't cafes or lounges. Thank you!
