Go to the service at St. Bridget's tomorrow and ask the priest to put you in touch with a family representative/trusted friend.

I would guess that she was holding the baby during the attack. The killer probably just started stabbing. These kind of attacks are just bloody mayhem. You can't really aim with a knife and a lot of criminals will actually end up cutting themselves during the violence of the attack. I hope they catch them soon. When his cell-mates find out what he did they will mete out their own punishment.

Prosecutor: Arrest 'forthcoming' in stabbing death of Jersey City's Jacqueline Reyes

By Charles Hack/The Jersey Journal

December 13, 2009, 1:01PM

Hudson County Prosecutor Edward DeFazio said today an arrest in the stabbing death of Jersey City resident Jacqueline Reyes, 27, may be forthcoming.
Authorities are making progress into the investigation of a gruesome stabbing that left a Jersey City woman dead and a 9-month-old baby clinging to life with nearly a dozen stab wounds, Hudson County Prosecutor Edward DeFazio said this afternoon.

?We are making progress and an arrest may be forthcoming,? DeFazio said of the joint investigation being conducted by the Jersey City Police Department and Hudson County Prosecutor?s Office Homicide Unit.

DeFazio?s announcement comes the day after the widower of 27-year-old Jacqueline Reyes, Ivan Reyes Sr., made an emotional plea for the public?s help to find the ?monster? who killed his wife and stabbed the couple?s 9-month-old son, Ivan Reyes Jr.

Reyes, 30, found his wife and baby boy covered in blood on Tuesday when he returned to the family?s apartment at 100 Montgomery St., the Paulus Hook Towers, for lunch on Tuesday. Earlier he had dropped off the couple?s 4-year-old daughter to School 16 on Sussex Street.

?The tragedy has destroyed me. I have not eaten, I have not slept ? I am destroyed. Anyone who saw this person, or knows who did this please call police,? Reyes told The Jersey Journal yesterday with the help of a translator.

Police say the motive for this crime may be related to ?a substantial amount? of cash missing from the apartment.

Ivan, Jr. is listed in a stable condition at University Hospital in Newark, DeFazio said.

Viewings for Jacqueline Reyes continues today 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Introcaso-Angelo Funeral Home, 143 Brunswick St., Jersey City.

Her funeral Mass will be tomorrow at 10 a.m. at St. Bridget?s Church, at Brunswick and Montgomery streets.

A 27-year-old Jersey City woman who was brutally stabbed Tuesday will be laid to rest Monday.

Police continue to investigate the murder of Jacqueline Reyes in her family's ninth floor Paulus Hook Towers apartment on Montgomery Street. Theft is believed to be the motivation.

Her 9-month-old son was seriously injured in the attack and remains in critical condition at The University Hospital in Newark.

Viewings are scheduled for Saturday from 6 to 9 p.m. and Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at Introcaso-Angelo Funeral Home at 143 Brunswick St. in Jersey City.

A funeral mass will be Monday at 10 a.m. at St. Bridget's Church at the intersection of Brunswick and Montgomery Streets in Jersey City.

Robbery may have been the motive for a brutal murder in Jersey City this week.

?We are confident at this point that a substantial amount of cash was removed from the apartment and at this point it is considered to be a case where theft of the cash was the apparent motivation,? Hudson County Prosecutor Edward DeFazio said.

Jacqueline Reyes, 27, died Tuesday after suffering from multiple stab wounds in her apartment at 100 Montgomery Street.

Her 9-month-old son was also stabbed during the attack. He remains in critical but stable condition at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey Hospital in Newark

Two years ago, woman nearly killed in building
Thursday, December 10, 2009
The murder of Jacqueline Reyes and the stabbing of her 9-month-old son is the second brutal attack to take place at Paulus Hook Towers within two years.

In January 2008, Glorious Martinez Correa, then 43, was nearly killed during an assault by a man with a metal rod. The masked attacker dragged her into a stairwell and beat her, fracturing her skull and eye socket.

Four hours later, a cleaning crew stepped off the elevator on Correa's floor and followed the trail of blood and found her. Some of the assault was captured on security video, but no one has ever been charged in the case.

Police do not think there is a connection between Tuesday's murder/stabbing and the attack on Correa, who survived her ordeal.

Anyone with information about the attack on Correa is asked to call the Jersey City police tip line at (201) 547-JAIL.

There was a police car on the parking lot all night long and for a greater part of the day after the incident. Around lunch time a white trailer came by. I had to go to work but my assumption is they searched all the trash hoping to find the weapon.

Jersey City Baby Stabbed in Attack that Killed His Mom Remains Critical

1010 Wins
Wednesday, 09 December 2009

JERSEY CITY, N.J. (AP/1010 WINS) -- A baby who was stabbed multiple times in a knife attack that killed his mother in Jersey City remains in critical but stable condition.

The woman's husband, a maintenance worker at the Paulus Hook Towers at 100 Montgomery St., discovered the bodies when he came home for lunch Tuesday afternoon, Hudson County Prosecutor Edward DeFazio said.

Jersey City police continue their search for possible suspects. Jersey City Fire Department Director Armando Roman was among those first on the scene of Tuesday's attack.

Roman says he spoke to the 7-month-old boy, whose parents are Dominican, in Spanish to try and keep the baby conscious.

Roman says in 29 years as a firefighter he has never seen a worse sight. He had to relieve four firefighters because of trauma and call in counselors to help the department cope.

Footage from surveillance cameras in the area of the apartment building are being reviewed

Plenty of DNA, I'm sure was collected at the crime scene, especially if the victim deceased as a result of multiple stab wounds.

Why does every thread here veer off into the most inane arguments? Oh well, I've been guilty of the same as well.

Doesn't seem like there is anything new to report about this....here's the latest

Guys --

Homicide is the general term for the death of a human being, at the hands of another.

A homicide could be at the hands of a serial killer, drive by shooter, or a police officer. Homicide is the general term.

Manslaughter and murder are the two subdivisions under the Homicide umbrella.

Manslaughter is largely unintentional.

Murder is intentional, and could be further classified as "preconceived".

At least that's the way I understand it (from my college criminal law class many years ago).

UGGGGHHHHH Yes Murder is Homicide but there IS a differance in charges. WHATEVER....
Go to jail for life or go to jail for 10 years. WHATEVER.
While you are at it google.... The differance between murder and homicide.
Homicide is not always illegal, murder is.

My thoughts are with the family and friends, and I hope this case is solved soon

Ughh. This is very shocking and upsetting news. More so, for me, personally, if I put two-n-two together, and correctly believe the father is the same whom drops his young boy off to school at PS 16 to ride the school bus with my daughter on route to PS 3 for the past couple years. Pappi really admires his son and gives him plenty of TLC. Due to this mornings downpour, I skipped the bus stop routine. Regardless, my thoughts and prayers go out to the Reyes family...

Here's what I can find on the Child but there isn't much new information in this story - mainly what was reported yesterday:

It says school 16, not 3.

People here are crazy.

From basic articles you guys

1. say that the husband/father ran away
2. some are already sure that the husband/father did it (which is a possibility, but unlikely and there is no word on it yet)
3. get the school wrong

I was curious about the statistics on this. Just horrifying really.

Of all children under age 5 murdered from 1976-2005 --

* 31% were killed by fathers
* 29% were killed by mothers
* 23% were killed by male acquaintances
* 7% were killed by other relatives
* 3% were killed by strangers

One of my relatives lives in the building...so I am getting play by play. However their info is not any more comprehensive than the reporters. The husband is being questioned while they are looking for the murder (just in case its not the father).

Interesting bit: there have been 3 incidents in this building in the last few years. The prior two nothing like this, but nevertheless all took place on the 9th Floor. (the article states 9th floor).

I just can't phantom how a father can do such a thing to his wife and infant. So I really, really hope it's not the husband/father.

I don't see where that is said. He dropped off his children to school and found the bodies and now is being questioned.

Oh my god I was wondering what all the commotion was about! Washington and Montgomery has police tape, squad cars and ambulances all over the place. Horrible news.
