i'm loving this place.

great place to watch local football games.

NO, NO, NO, on the best singles bar. It actually can't get any worse than this place. But yes it is a very cool old time JC local bar

You mean Golden Cicada? I can't imagine it being great for a 'singles bar' but it is a pretty cool old school bar.

Paulus Hook is a bit too rich for most of us younger folks. Walk west until the highrises stop. Lucky 7's and the Lamp Post have more what you're looking for (late 20's early 30's artist/hipster types sans trust funds). Both can be kinda dead on (some but not all) weeknights, but typically have a big turnout on the weekends.

I just want to find a place with a late 20's, early 30's crowd. I'm new to JC, so maybe I'm not going to the right spots.

As far as Merchant, is mostly older school teacher types at the bar, do not want. Bring your own date.

LITM, uhm......won't ever go there again.

With a face like that, how could you not hook up?

As far as the "older school teacher types", one man's trash is another man's fetish, you know.

the PATH train.

starbucks.

nicer neighborhood like paulus has better looking women. JC still attracts more men because of its rough edges.

Not sure about a singles scene, but Bar Majestic is a pretty chill place. May be a few singles there...no idea. Zeppelin Hall is full of men. Definitely agree that would be a good place to go if I were still a single woman in JC.

Hmmm.... Bar Majestic? The one on Grove?? That place SUCKS. They bill themselves as a wine bar (best wine bar in NJ!) and that is just laughable. The music is SO loud that you can barely have a conversation with a friend, or companion. If you ask me, that place is completely overrated: overpriced drinks, obnoxious loud music and usually a bit too crowded. Walk a few feet farther North and go into The Merchant!! Bartenders that really are on top of their game, great drinks, really low prices (by NY/NJ standards) and a great vibe. There is always a nice mix of people there (after work, people out in the town, and some regulars.) After a few visits, the bartenders will remember you and the service is really great.

Full disclosure: I do NOT have any ties to The Merchant. I am just a very happy customer. I really wanted to like Bar Majestic, and gave it a couple of chances. Always walked away feeling disappointed.

I think for a singles scene, both Bar Majestic and The Merchant would be okay. I just suggested Bar Majestic since I prefer it over the merchant. Really, the singles scene I would go to would be in Hoboken or NYC.

Short answer - the beer garden is probably your BEST bet.

Certain bars, on certain nights, have a pretty good guy/gal ratio. But I agree ... as a whole, on most nights, most bars are a total dudefest.

I think a lot of the younger women who do go out to bars end up going to Hoboken if not the city, which kind of sucks for single JC dudes looking to keep it local.

Here's my recommendation. Use the bars in JC as what they are, or at least what they are at this point - neighborhood joints. When you want to have a local, low-key night. But if you want to meet people, try the beer garden (especially in summertime), or head across the river to Manhattan. The crowd of younger women at B Bar in the East Village always amazes.

i think there's just more guys here than girls. white star is even worse (probably b/c of the sports) but i was there for ladies night when if you dressed like a school girl you drank free. i'm sure you'll find a ton of classy ladies on a night like that....good luck
