Does anyone know who the fund is for? I assume it goes to his wife and children?

Thanks to those members who were able to attend Det. DiNardo's Wake and Funeral. At the wake, one could see how this local Jersey City teen grew up, was loved, and how he loved back. Lines were out the door circling the block to Dunkin Donuts. It was said the family felt comfort knowing that he touched so many lives.

Today, Jan and I witnessed one of the most beautiful ceremonies. When we approached St. Aedan's, street after street was blocked off for Police parking. I did not think we would be able to even get near the church. As we finally walked to the church, the streets were filled with a sea of blue. Probably thousands of officers from around the nation were there to express their support and love for their fallen comrade.

As we sat in the church with other teary folks, we listened to the family tell fond stories of how Mark always enjoyed like with humor and warmth. Chief Comey shared his lack of words when he approached Mary DiNardo, Mark's wife, at the hospital and told her he was probably doing a patrol in heaven. She corrected him and joked, "if he is in heaven, he is probably playing on the internet playing his favorite video game." We all laughed with the Chief.

On this beautiful day, we saw his 3 beautiful children at the ceremony. The youngest, almost 2 years old, who was barefoot and smiling at all the glory as her siblings held tight to their tearful mother. We stood amongst the ESU (Emergency Special Unit) family members as they shared their grief and fear of losing a husband and father.

Please take a moment to think about Det. Mark DiNardo and thank the JCPD for their fight every day for our city.

Thank you Detective!

when you look at the headlines about jersey city during the last 10 days, one feels saddened.

one hand, there are the headlines of the (temporary) fall-down a fundamentally corrupt, sleazy political machine.

one the other hand, there is the headline of a cop shot dead, leaving a grieving family behind.

the hero is dead, gave his life to protect us, and the sleazeballs, who should serve us, live and continue to flourish.

sad, very sad indeed.

thank you officer; may you rest in peace.

We're hosting a special soccer tournament on Friday, September 18th at Giants Stadium to help raise funds for Jersey City Detective Marc DiNardo's three young children. Detective DiNardo was shot and killed in July and four fellow officers were wounded.

Tickets are only $20 each and include entry into the DiNardo Family Cup event at 3:30 pm; a children's interactive zone at 4:30 pm; and the NY Red Bulls vs. New England Revolution match at 7:30pm.

A very impressive one-of-a-kind auction of soccer and other sports memorabilia will take place during the Red Bulls match.

You don't have to attend to make a difference - donations are also being accepted online and will go towards the JCPBA scholarship fund established for Det. DiNardo's children.

As an update, The DiNardo Family Cup fundraiser raised $10,000 for the children of slain Jersey City detective Marc Anthony DiNardo.

Our soccer tournament combined with the NY Red Bulls memorabilia auction raised almost $9500.00. We were shooting for a $10,000 goal and reached out to Chris Ryan of Michael Anthony's Restaurant on Washington Blvd who not only pitched in the extra $500.00 to make our goal a reality, but he also agreed to host our check presentation ceremony tomorrow, Sunday, October 4th.

Everyone is invited out beginning at 2pm. There is no charge to attend and you purchase your own food and drinks if you wish. We will be presenting the donation check to Mary DiNardo at about 3pm.

Thanks to all who helped support this very worthwhile cause!
