If anyone is out of work and in need of cash, just go to a busy intersection with a bright orange shirt, and bright orange flag and help people cross the streets. Keep a tip jar with you and maybe make some money on tips. you could be like an indie crossing guard, that is of course, until you get robbed....

I assume in PA they leave it in the bin on the opposite side of the street... but in JC, it will travel home or into the sewer.

Seems kinda silly. The flags would all be gone after a day or two anyway.

looks like officials in Lemoyne, Pa found the solution to keeping pedestrians safe, maybe we should try it here in JC:

Local officials have placed plastic bins filled with bright orange flags at two of the town's busiest intersections.

Pedestrians are being asked to pick up one flag and wave it overhead while crossing the street to remind drivers that people on foot have the right of way.

Finding this truck is really a no-brainer. Check the NJ DMV files & run them through the system one by one.

Saw a truck this morning on Jersey Ave., same year, same color, with a contrator's box, but it was a black box, not silver, and there was no W in the license plate, and there was no damage up front, and the truck looked like it had enough grime on it not to have had any bodywork done recently. All black pickup trucks are getting a serious eyeballing downtown, I think.

Hopefully, someone will spot the truck and get this guy off the roads. With all the cameras around, I can't imagine why this guy hasn't been caught. That truck probably crossed through Holland Tunnel traffic--there must be tons of cameras there. I wonder if JCPD has reached out to the Port Authority to see if they have footage that captured the trucks full license plate number.

Don't feel bad. It's worth having the cops looking into it. Did the plate first letters match the reports?

although it's true for all big cities, jc is probably one of the worst. The lesson here is always watch both directions before you cross, dont assume because of the light you have right of way, due to the high concentration of maniac drivers here. And at the end of the day, he's protected inside a metal box while you are not.

I lost count the number of times i would've gotten ran over if i wasnt specifically watching the opposite side on that 1 way street intersecting montgomery. Nevermind the double DO NOT ENTER and ONE WAY signs. People just drive right through while there is a walking sign.

I really hope they find this guy. I can't believe all the cars that continued to go through the intersection

The cops should look around every construction site in JC for this truck. And that is a good idea about checking Home Depot cameras.

it is also scary as hell to ride your bike around town. . it takes it up a notch . that intersection feels always like a death trap. . I saw a little boy get hit by a car around Christmas last year, he was not seriously hurt from what it seemed . i wonder if there is any news about that anywhere. It's horrible and the aggression needs to stop otherwise, i think we should starting thinking about how the hell to reduce automobile traffic in the downtown Jersey City area.

Running in this city is a nightmare. While training for a marathon, I used to run at 5 AM. It's lawless. I've seen cars going the wrong way down 1-way streets and stopping for a sign or light is totally optional. I even had my heel clipped once by a car almost turning into me. And this is when there isn't even that much traffic around.

It's almost an anxiety-ridden experience to walk around JC. It sounds ridiculous, but I almost always assume that red lights are optional for asshole drivers and hesitate until I've SEEN everyone stop. It's a shame that you have to be so OCD about crossing the streets.

I run as well, and I used to go along the water using this mall intersection to get there...it was such a stressful traffic situation, now I walk to LSP and run there instead.

The fatal hit & run of a woman crossing Grand Street several months ago by the Hospital has yet to be solved. How hard is it to find the pick-up from last week's hit & run?

This is absolutely horrifying and definately makes me think twice about entering an intersection. He also has that stupid Nascar "33" number on the truck too, I hope he gets caught.. I was in court yesterday and their were at least 5 people in there who got caught for hit and runs.... wish he was one of them!

If you pause it at 1:03 it looks like there is a white chevy decal in the rear window... The news said it was a ford- but I am sure the police already watched the surveillance video in slow motion...

I nearly got run down a few months back on the intersection of Marin and 1st. It was a black truck taking a left turn onto Marin coming down 1st. The driver actually revved up right when it was a few feet from me. Luckily I was able to rush to the sidewalk, but I was so shaken I couldn't take note of the vehicle/make. I only remember this monstrous truck looming in front of me. After that incident, I have been very cautious about crossing the street at Marin, generally taking the crosswalk at Shoprite instead. That road is especially bad. Even when I've driven down that road and stopped to let a pedestrian cross at the crosswalk before turning, I've got honked at. Really, what is the rush? Is this traffic to/from the tunnel?

Even though I appreciate all the effort in doling out tickets to the drivers who make that wrong turn into BJs parking lot, this road surely needs more attention.

I wish Mr Torres a quick recovery and strength to his family.

The JCPD should pay more attention to speeding drivers. Try crossing Marin Munoz Blvd. and 2nd street in JC or Grove and Mercer. It?s a nightmare. Many drivers wouldn?t stop and let people cross. If police paid more attention (TICKETS) to that issue there would be no problems. If you are on a crosswalk-driver must stop-that?s the law. JCPD please enforce it !

Just saw the story on NBC 11pm news. A partial plate # of KY or KR was reported. It was reported to be a Ford F-150.

this footage is chilling. i am not a disturbed person. i am happy and well-balanced.

i broke down the timeframe to demonstrate that the traffic signal was red and the "ampelmann" was in the pedestrian's favor, lest there be any doubt. i did not enjoy doing this task.

the light was clearly red at the time of the accident. we cannot see it, but we can see the 6th street light being green. we cannot see the amber.

the time between when the pedestrian enters the camera view and is struck is under two seconds

timeline:

(ch. 6) 13:30:55:281

Brilliant.
I think the police should follow through on that idea.
And if he did come from HD, I'll bet he parked in the firelane in front next to the doors. There have to be cameras there.

There were about 10 news-vans at the intersection at 5:30p. There is also one of those flashing message signs calling for anyone with info to come forward. Seems they did not get a plate number. The truck looks to be a contractors truck. Was it coming from Hope Depot? Wonder if there are cameras at that location?

The news channels love it when there is video available of someone getting hurt. The more video of a crime occurring they can show, the better. This probably makes the city of Jersey City less willing to release or want to make such videos available to the public because it is not a good reflection on our city or our police department. (or citizens for that matter)

I just watched the footage. It took me a few times to see where it was happening... I really feel for the victim and his family and I hope he recovers. I also hope someone caught the license plate of the truck.

hey guys. saw the news vans too on marin as i drove by today.

i walk that intersection all the time to get to the mall and it can be very scary/hairy getting across there. car are always zooming down marin.

i looked at the videos and to me there is no doubt that is a Ford 150 circa 07 or newer. that clear 3rd brake light is the main clue for me.

check this pic for comparison:
