Terri, are you saying the Mayor should not be accountable for the crime problem. It is the job of the Mayor to provide citizens with public safety. Healy overall is a joke as Mayor.

Capnjon, I'm looking at fliers that were in my mailbox from Healy, they all say crime is done, he consistently says it

I agree... but that never stops some jclist posters...

Right, but you realize even if crime were down 50%, the newspaper would still report the crimes that were occurring, right? So let's say crime really is down 24% or whatever. Crime still exists, so there will still be stories published, and they will still be republished on JC List.

So I guess my real point is people just sound really dumb when they write this every time crime happens.

Seriously, what is your problem, talk about annoying. Who the hell are you? Just quit it, no one wants to read this on every crime post.
And do you really think the mayor has absolute control over crime. Why don't you run for mayor icechute? Come on run, or shut the hell up - please!!!!1

I will give you $1,400 worth of property including $500 in cash, cell phones, wallets and jewelry if you stop saying that.

It's a crime that Healy is going to get re-elected.

Sometimes people leave their job with cash, and the banks are already closed. This is especially true of food servers and bartenders. (I used to leave a waitressing gig with $100 to $200 in my pocket every night. Servers in NYC probably make a lot more.) But there are other professionals who this effects as well. A close friend of mine is a licensed massage therapist, and she showed up at my apartment one recent Friday with $600 cash in her purse from her day in the office.

My mother always told me: if you're carrying a lot of cash hide it in your bra or sock, and carry a $20 in your wallet as a decoy.

I agree. Every time I read these robbery stories it always involves people carrying large sums of money. I don't get why anyone would carry that much cash no matter where they are. Is it tough to get a credit card in JC?? LOL

and actually IceChute, the only person who keeps saying crime is down is you. healy hasnt put that in any literature, or on the commercials since the one time he said it, like, over a month ago. right after he said it, it seems like crime really went up, and he stopped....

Not at all..... just pointing out that he made a claim that is re-buffed in the news on a daily basis.

People usually get paid on Fridays and a there are a lot of check cashing stores in that neighborhood.

the four closest check cashing places are more than a quarter of a mile away from there and none of them are open at that time of night.

You can't assume everyone has a bank account and easy access to ATMs. Ever notice all the check cashing businesses in JC? People who use them often carry more cash then they should.

Of course in same cases, it's drug dealers being robbed.

It's incredible that anyone would carry that much money around in that area. It is not the safest. I would carry that around in high density Manhattan (in the right nabs of course there too) but never in the outer limits of Jersey City in the off hours.

4 robbed at gunpoint

Monday, May 04, 2009

Four Jersey City residents were robbed at gunpoint by two masked men late Saturday, police reports said.

Police were called to a Summit Avenue home near Fairmont Avenue at 11:54 p.m. on the report of a robbery. The resident told police that two men walked up to her and three friends with a gun and said, "Run your pockets. Give us everything," reports said.

The robbers fled after taking $1,400 worth of property including $500 in cash, cell phones, wallets and jewelry, reports said.
