Drag performers feel the effect of the recession

The economic downturn is having an impact on entertainers from the gay, lesbian and transgender community. Performers are finding themselves with fewer venues to play and costumes to change. Despite the bleak climate, there was plenty of glitz at the Jacob Javits Center in Manhattan last weekend during the annual GLBT Expo, which featured two full days of music, dance and sass from nightclub divas. The event was smaller this year, due to the recession, but volunteers from outreach organizations like Jersey City Pride said that attendance is up at parades and neighborhood events.
