What I meant even though this site was intended for the Downtown area suggestions were added to guide people to other sections of J.C. This site even has catagories for the subject at hand such as "Not in Jersey City" And when a council vote is needed to pass resolutions Steve Fulop does not cast the only ballot the other 8 council members also vote whether it is in the council member's ward or not. Moochie's was short lived I never got the chance to get in there.

I agree but by being this way it expands the horizons of J.C. Sometimes you have to look outside of the box. Why miss out on what J.C. has to offer. Your tax dollars go to the same address for all residents. And the 5 other council members and 3 at large vote for Downtown's best interest. I don't think it's wise to partition yourselves when other parts of your city may affect you.

* Tippy's in the Heights on Kennedy Blvd (garden center now)
* Rands Ice Cream between Pavonia and Newark Avenues. It was the best ice cream anywhere. People walked or drove from all parts of Jersey City for their sundaes (now a closed down check cashing place). * Lunch counter at Liss Pharmacy up the square. Big haired servers that worshiped Mayor Hague and probably got lucky on Armistice Day. Great BLTs and coffee.

1. the canton tea garden (journal square staple and jersey city landmark, now becoming a bally's)
2. ko-shing (great gourmet chinese food on montgomery across from the projects) 3. mullally's (newark at five corners, used to be a great lunch spot when i worked in the courthouse.) 4. diblazi's pizza (used to be on beacon at baldwin, best pizza in the heights until they closed in the early 90's) 5. the flamingo (i know it's still open, but they lost their overnight waitress and now the vibe is even worse than the horrible office style lights. they are renovating soon, so bye bye they go.) 6. pura vida (i know it's not a restuarant, but i really miss this place a lot.) 7. fresh tortilla's grill (journal square, not downtown) i'm sure i can think of more if i drove around and realized something else was missing...

Walter's Luncheonette (which later became Kitchen Cafe)
In high school we made up a song to remember the daily special sandwiches at Walter's. Monday was sausage day and you had to get there before 12:30 or they would probably be sold out. I can still taste the hot pastrami sandwich there and have not had one as good since they left. They had a few booths and a long counter to sit at. The kitchen was in the same spot it is in now. I used the old wooden phone booth there to call in sick to school before hopping on the PATH into the city. Walter (really named George, I think Walter was his dad?) was a class act with a great sense humor. This was the late 80's and early 90's.

Miss them, and add Lisa's Roti recent demise to the Caribbean losses. Nicole's jerk doesn't compare to either of theirs. And Al and Moe's Pizza! you could get a killer lunch plate of eggplant parm and ziti for $3.

I miss their panini sandwiches, you were able to get a side of cold pasta salad, the location was a good one, and there is no one else around that did it like them.

+1 on Harvest Cart.
More than anything, I miss Lombardi's. Now there isn't a single decent pizza place in Downtown. Bueno Appetito is a good, recent, alternative. But still not as good as you can find, well, anywhere else in New Jersey.

I lived across the street from Lucy's for several years, had breakfast and lunch there several times a week and never tired of eating there. Sad to see it go but happy for Lucy! I used to love Tippy's which only the old-timers here will know, for their burgers, chocolate milk shakes and guff and graw the old timers would give each other at the counter.

Before Rachel, there was a place called Holiday's (named after Billie Holiday, I believe). The breakfast wraps were amazing!

The Tripoli Restaurant locate 289 Newark Ave.,
Roy's Buena Vista located on Mallory Ave. Illventos on Westside Ave. The Tripoli was known for their Italian cheese cake. Roy's had a comfortable informal atmosphere, and Illvento's where I had my confirmation party was good for pizza, mussels, and wine. You were bound to run into someone you knew at Illvento's

Melt. Especially with Go gone, I miss having a conveniently located (to me) sandwich place aside from Basic to hop over to on a moment's notice.

I worried about Harvest Cart - the owner seemed like a trust funder who wanted to start a franchise company - food was ok - chicken was good - he still lived in Manhattan - it seemed more like a marketing idea than a restaurant.
1. Liberty Grille and River Bar: was this the light ship - if so I miss that - great place to have a beer. 2. Melt: Sorry Glen but just not my thing, too slow and really not too inviting... 3. Rachel: I never went there - I should have - their vegetarian specials sounded great but my friends were not impressed so I stayed away. 5. DJ Garden: I did liked them but it wasn't too clean in their kitchen. Future on Newark Avenue is much cleaner but not as good at spicing sauces. 6. Scent of Italy: HaHa, you jest! 7. Casablanca Grill: I never made it there - Shadman's is great - cheap and fun - the other place on Grove is too spicy and not as clean - IMHO. 8. Comfort Bistro: Very bad location -- being below ground in an area that floods. 9. Columbus Cafe/Epicure Market Cafe: was a great idea but the steam tables were never hot enough -- the food made me really really sick! 10. Gabagoolz Italian Deli: Was this place ever really open? I thought it was the stuff of myth. Would have helped Melt's foot traffic problem - both should have really been on Newark Avenue - I hope La Rustique Pizza does better over there. 15. Tania's - Yeah I miss it, but Sava's is a good replacement ( if you can get her to boil your perogies fresh and not microwave them -- a word to the wise, no matter what she says, her vegetarian soups might NOT be vegetarian ) 16. Nicco's - I am told that the neighbors are really happy that this place is gone! 17. La Primavera - It was very odd and always was empty. 19. Baker Boys Cafe - I was very sad to see it go - I miss the ice coffee! One of my muffin's from there did have Windex on it - I hope anyway that it was Windex. 20. Hearts & Horns - This must have been the weirdest idea for a bar I have seen. What were they thinking? Not even Hoboken would like this place. ====================== I miss Teddy's Roti - it changed to Lisa's Roti but now even that is gone! Pecoraro's Bakery really needs to start making Pizza again - it was as good as La Rustique's and was only $10 per larger pie.
