No bus runs 24 hours a day as far as I know. Is this some kind of dust in the eyes of those who lose out of this move?
As for having four different buses called 99, it's probably because they thought they have so many lines that they ran out of numbers.

I just called Coach USA/Red & Tan, 908-354-3330 (option 3 on the phone menu) and got an actual person. He says that indeed there will be no more service along Palisade Ave. It'll run along Central then turn down Congress to the Light Rail elevator taking a left there down to the viaduct. There MAY be a stop at the Light Rail station (none on Congress) but he couldn't confirm. He said there's a meeting about it today and to call back Friday for more info.

If there is a stop at the Light Rail this isn't so bad for us folks near Palisade/Congress. I'll have to walk a block farther (down the busted up sidewalks of Congress which are treacherous when icey) but there will 99S buses twice as often (in theory) and the 123 route begins at the same spot. It still hoses 1.4 miles worth of riders on the rest of Palisade ave though.

Actually, Jersey Journal says that the 99S Express, which runs from Bayonne to New York, will continue to operate on its current route. Isn't that the Palisades Ave. bus? I guess the JFK bus is the one that is being rerouted.

If that's the case, great. But the JCHeights.com press release says: "CoachUSA’s number 10 & 99s routes, which runs every 30 minutes between Bayonne and the Port Authority Bus Terminal in Manhattan via Journal Square, will be rerouted to busy Central Avenue from a residential stretch on Palisade Avenue. Maybe it's a matter of terminology in that I've been confused by the designation of 99, 99S, 99S Express and now the 10. Could Coach USA be any more unclear lately?

Anyhow the Journal article doesn't completely clarify the matter for me but it's helpful.

That really sucks. As if riding the 99s wasn't slow and unreliable enough already. This is really going to through the drivers for a loop too. I have been on two morning 99s buses in the last month where the drivers did not know how to get into the hov lane or how to get into port authority.

I think it's great that Central will have a bus service - but not at the expense of messing up my commuting options. This IS all about ME isn't it?!

BUT,
It's certainly a blessing for those who live between Central and Summit!

But yes, Central Avenue will be a lot slower.

Yeah, seriously, I still can't understand why the jitney people aren't all over Central Ave!

LOL. We have enough 99 cent stores on Central ave. to almost warrant their own shuttle.

But seriously, I have to wonder why NJ Transit discontinued service down Central. I believe it stopped a year or so ago. For that matter I'd think if there were sufficient demand, an enterprising Jitney operator would be all over it.

The avenue might actually see some improvement from the traffic. At least then , you wouldnt have so many vacant store fronts , but if they cater to senior citizens traveling only within the heights to shop, then the city really is showing there short sighted vision of what the heights is and will continue to be in the next 10 -15 years.

The 99s and 10 bus lines which currently use palisade ave are now going to use central ave instead. that bus line is slow and infrequent already. Having that bus on central will make the trip another 10-20 minutes longer. Not to mention they will now honor nj transit bus passes for local trips but not trips to nyc. I wonder with more local stops and people on the bus make red and tan shorten the scheduled 30 minute schedule to 15 by adding more buses.
