I have been to Newport... it is just ok. There is a new studio in town... CHISEL Circuit. It is really cool and very different from anything else around. It is downtown Jersy City.

I have been a member at the gym for almost 3 years now and used to use the pool regularly. It has been getting considerably dirty lately. The floors surrounding the pool are not cleaned and dirt and hair accumulate near the drains. The showers in the pool area are also a joke. There is a ton of mold growing in them.

I have complained on several occassions to gym management and the "lifeguards" on duty (another joke - they are either on the phone, reading a magazine, or sitting in the hot tub and rarely watching the water) and they always tell me that they'll look into it.

They only reason I'm still a member is the convenience of the gym to where I work and lack of other options in the area. A new gym (with a clean pool) would be a VERY welcome addition to the neighborhood!

Can't believe all the negative responses. I have been a member for half a year, and it beats all the shabby places in JC. The extra's are perfect (like free towels, schampoo's etc), and it has everything you need.

It is very quiet during the day, and yes, the pool is basic. But I have never found it to be anything else but clean. Plus, lets face it there are not that many places where a pool comes included.

Yes, there are a lot of children hat use the pool during the day (as is mine), but they all wear swim daipers plus if the pool was not clean they would be the first to stay out!

You should definitely check it out, and see what you think for yourself.

+1 for Xerxes. The gym is clean and the equipment is great. Best part is it's not as crowded at 6am like most fitness centers in NYC. The pool, however, average at best.

I think the Newport gym is just fine...clean and pretty well equipped, although there's no pec deck...

A bit overpriced prehaps, but better than any other gym I've ever belonged to (about 5 of them.)

The gym facilities are OK, but forget about the pool area...

They never change the water and if you by mistake get a mouthful you'll be sickened by the salty urine taste

In fact, almost everytime I'm there I see infants/children in the pool/jacuzzi and haven't went in since they re-opened...

In fact, children aren't suppose to be allowed in the jacuzzi at all, but with all the family memberships they sell they turn a blind eye...

That jacuzzi is probably incubating enough diseases to keep the CDC busy for a year in analysis

I've been a member there for about a year. i believe i'm paying somewhere around $75 / month. The gym is nothing special. not too well managed. but it gets the job done and is convenient for someone living in Newport. Every overpays for convenience in the tri-state area, right?

I have never been there but based on comments I have read in the past that place is not very nice and not worth the money.

How is this place? Can anyone give me a general description of the place? Do you like being a member there? How is the pool.....size, cleaniness? Generally, what is the cost of being a member? Thanks!
