Really? NOBODY made it an issue then? Got anything to back that up or is it just a baseless anecdote?

Think pragmatically instead of in ideals. You want it to be one way, but it's the other way.

More people will watch if it doesn't go against MNF. Therefore, just have it on a Tuesday, yeah? This is the easy stuff.

I googled it an could not find one instance mentioning it happening at the same time as MNF and it being an issue but please let me know what you have found that i did not...

LOL... the smart ones will have the NFL game on. Who would serve alcohol to any crowd with that mudfest on their tv.

For real, why are they going up against Monday Night Football?

The dates for these debates were set before the NFL setup this year's schedule and before Clinton and Trump became the nominees.

Huh? When is there *not* a Monday Night Football telecast in a late September Monday??

I agree, they should have it on a Tuesday. But it wasn't scheduled on this date, because the system is "rigged", as Trump claims,

Ok sure. I'm not saying it's rigged. But there's no good reason to have it run against MNF.

Or maybe its irrelevant since a week 3 game(or any game, for that matter) is probably not as important as a presidential debate. Up to you, though.

Sigh... I was not arguing the merits of an MNF game versus watching the debate. My reply was in regards to Pebble's reply to WhoElseCouldIBe questioning why they would schedule a debate at a time that would conflict with what is a traditionally popular telecast (MNF games have very high viewership numbers.) In his reply, Pebble said that the debate was scheduled before the NFL had released its schedule, but that reply seems to ignore the fact that a Monday Night Football game in a late September Monday is a guarantee. The Commission could have foreseen the conflict and simply scheduled the debate for Tuesday. As for which one I will watch, I can assure I will do my best to watch both, through the magic of DVR!

(Interesting Washington Post piece on debate scheduling/viewership past and present. Remember Trump did make a big stink back in July 2016 about the Monday Night Football dates. Looks like they were scheduled in Sept 2015.)

Do NFL games really take eyeballs off presidential debates?
By Callum Borchers August 1

You may have heard that ratings-conscious Donald Trump is miffed that two of the three general election presidential debates are scheduled on the same autumn nights as prime-time NFL games.

The first debate between Trump and Hillary Clinton on Sept. 26 will compete against ESPN's "Monday Night Football" telecast of the New Orleans Saints vs. Atlanta Falcons. The second, on Oct. 4, is up against NBC's "Football Night in America" broadcast of the New York Giants vs. Green Bay Packers.

Monday Night Football always gets huge ratings. So you're incorrect in saying that it's irrelevant.

There's no good reason to schedule this on Monday as opposed to a Tuesday. Someone f*cked up.

Judging from your response you must think I am mocking mobility impaired people? You think she will take a parking spot right in front of the building?

Will the Donald say something to derail his chances?

Will Mrs. Clinton have her eyes roll back into her head and pass out?

This is going to be incredible.

I'd give $100 to have Hunter S. Thompson around to write about this.

I'm going to go out on a huge limb and say that Democrat and Republican sheep alike will each blindly defend their candidate and trash the other.
