I downloaded Hoopla. As EthanCrane says, it's really easy to use. Selection of movies is just ok, but you'd probably find something to watch if Netflix isn't available for some reason. And hey, free.

I tried it this weekend. It's easy and simple. The selection is limited, of course, but it's not bad. The Hoopla app offers lots of movies, TV shows, audiobooks, e-books, comics, and albums, while the Zinio app offers a decent amount of current magazines. Getting set up and checking out materials takes minutes. I like that you can download videos for offline viewing. Netflix doesn't offer that.

The reading experience is better on a tablet, but both work on phones, as well.

The Jersey City Free Public Library is going digital.

To adapt to the needs of the city's residents, the library is expanding the availability of digital media. Library card holders now have access to free movies, music, television shows, and eBooks, thanks to a partnership with hoopla digital, officials announced today.

Hoopla digital partners with public libraries across North America to provide thousands of titles to users simply by downloading the app on their smartphone, tablet, or computer. To date, seven other libraries in the state use the service.
