Hey wishful thinking, didn't you read what I wrote? I said my condo, not the building. The place where I reside. The blessing takes places inside my door, not outside. The priest uses Holy Water and prayers. By the way, many Jewish families have Mezuzah which is on the outside of their door. They do not need my OK for that so I am not seeking an OK for the blessing on my condo.

Don't apologize for having morals, and not being an "old person". When these people were young they thought like you do. It is inappropriate, and if it is a condo let their board decide and have a vote as well. And I agree the country is travelling down a scary path. Drip by drip it's not much in the beginning but will flood us in the end.

I'm 54 - becoming an older, wiser person is very much on the horizon. I'm thrilled about some of the changes that have taken place recently in the US - like the growing acceptance of gay marriage and diversity; and have serious reservations about others - income inequality, growing hatemongering about immigrants, a growing political class that has no respect for science, rational discourse, or the qualities of leadership.

I'm curious what is not working for you both.

As far as the photo goes - it's nice, but it's been done. As someone who dabbles in art myself, I would have explored making the image more abstract, contrast-y and sculptural.

The condo board is elected, I assume. They make these decisions and can react accordingly. It is a private space that is dictated by them.

It is a share space, what the board decides may not reflect what the tenants feel comfortable. I know I would not be comfortable. Every year, I have my condo blessed by the local priest. I would be extremely uncomfortable having the good Father walk through my lobby seeing pictures like that. Not all art increases the value of a building. There are some people who will not bid on a particular condo property.

If several residents in your condo told you to not bless the building, would you tell the Father to not do it?

Considering that there are likely people of multiple faiths in your building, did you consider getting the association's approval before taking on this project?

Erm, OK... I see no trend at all here. I don't know what y'all are so worried about.

I might add that it's not a gallery, it's their building. I may not agree with their choices, but it's their home, and they should have some say about the artwork displayed there.

Meanwhile, Whitman (The photographer) says the photos were not meant to be risque or offensive.

"People thought they were inappropriate because there was a little skin. There's some nudity but it's so not about nudity," said Whitman, whose studio is located in Manhattan. "These photographs were displayed at Chelsea Market here in Manhattan for two or three months with 700,000 people walking through and they never had one complaint."

Whitman said most of the photos are from a trip the Connecticut-based dance company took to Israel. However, he said some of his work in the lobby was already been taken down amid complaints.

"If all the pictures were up it would be a beautiful exhibit," he said. "The coolest pictures are not on display, they're in the closet there someplace."

Don't start worrying until you start using the phrase Entartete Kunst.

although i would not want these in my lobby (my taste!), i don't see what is inappropriate. they say the human body is supposed to be beautiful and the dancers are not engaged in any sexually suggestive activities.

Caitlin Mota | The Jersey Journal

A public art gallery in the lobby of A Condominiums on Washington Street has ruffled the feathers of several residents who are concerned the artwork is not appropriate for young children.
