It's just their name for their outlet stores. They have them up in Woodbury NY and other outlet-center places. Prices are just okay, and they carry a lot of overstock/previous-season stuff. Not bad deals, but probably not a place for a serious sneaker-head.

Factory store? Is that like outlet store with the really good prices? Or is this just the name given to get some attention & traffic into the store.

It also wouldn't apply as there are not enough Nike corporate stores in a certain proximity needed. But I am sure these facts will not change the mind of Mayor Fulop's biggest obsessor!

The ordinance doesn't apply to all of Downtown, just a specific portion. Your post is extremely dishonest. If Nike would like to put a regular shop (not an outlet store) in the Newport Mall, that would be great. It would also not violate any ordinances.

I think the dtjc residents would have it shut down due to all the "noisy" sneaker collectors camping out at night when collectible items go on sale. They are to bougie for their own good. Anyway good for Newark!

Thank goodness, it is not downtown JC, the store would be violating the ordinance concerning chain stores. The mayor would have to close them down.

A new Nike factory store has set up shop on Broad Street, becoming the latest addition to a rapidly developing portion of the city's downtown. The outlet, which opened its doors for the first time Thursday morning, sells sneakers, athletic apparel and sports equipment at discounted prices. It is located at the corner of Broad Street and Cedar Street across from Military Park, on the same block as the newly opened Prudential Tower and a recently completed Starbucks. Property records indicate that the building is owned by Prudential, which purchased it in June 2012. MORE: Newark officials break ground on facility aimed at attracting food trucks The area is attracting a glut of attention from developers, with plans for a nearby mixed-use retail and residential building anchored by a Whole Foods supermarket, a new hotel and a high-rise apartment building already in the works. Nike spokesman Alex Pitochelli was unable to confirm how many employees the store had hired, saying only that the company was "excited about the team." More
