because there are 2 marinas in the Morris canal. This would be an impossibility.

Not an impossibility, just absurdly expensive to make it high enough to clear the tallest masts. And if did, no doubt many would complain it was an eyesore blocking their views.

If the property owners of Paulus Hook really feel strongly about access, they could easily cooperate on creating a small ferry service.

As I've said every time this monster rears it's head, just picture the clusterfuck at Jersey & Grand every morning as bumper to bumper cars try to enter Downtown from this bridge. I predict they gridlock the HBLR grade crossing. And Lafayette will see no relief whatsoever, because traffic will always fill to the "pain" level. If people abandon Pacific for Jersey, others will take their place, since it will be less painful than Columbus or 12th.

My personal solution if we must have a bridge: use the EZ pass system to lockout from the tunnel for an hour anyone using exit 14B. The time and expense of having to use cash might balance the incentive to use Jersey and keep them away.

Agreed! I hope decent pedestrian access and perhaps even bike lanes are included. It would be nice to have a more direct route walking downtown to Liberty State Park and this link could do it.

I'm skeptical of ulterior motives. This is New Jersey after all. In addition to the park, it will probably be easier access from the Holland Tunnel to the new casino..

There's a pedestrian bridge in place now and because there is no connection for cars there is zero traffic to contend with. A bridge for cars would add much more traffic to that area so I don't see that as a bonus for cyclists and pedestrians. As a resident of HP I usually drive to the park via Jersey Ave and go around the canal to go to the park or LSC. This bridge would only take a couple minutes off that drive so it is a very small convenience for DTJC drivers while potentially adding a bunch more traffic to Jersey Ave, particularly during the commute.

"Officials believe the span would improve congestion issues at New Jersey Turnpike Exit 14C". Generally there isn't much congestion besides commuting hours, so the plan is to put some of that congestion onto DTJC streets, or at least make it easier than it already is. Doesn't seem like a good tradeoff to me.

Regardless it is well needed as access to the park is a joke.

Easier than taking the Turnpike from the Holland Tunnel? I'd look to Goldman Sachs, not Paul Fireman for ulterior motives.

Nice shortcut to the Tunnel and Target for some folks.

Regardless it is well needed as access to the park is a joke.

Hearing set for $10M plan to connect Downtown Jersey City to Liberty State Park

By Terrence T. McDonald | The Jersey Journal The Jersey Journal
June 15, 2015 at  5:06 PM

JERSEY CITY — State and city officials will a host a public hearing next week to discuss a proposed $10 million vehicular bridge connecting Jersey Avenue to Liberty State Park.

Officials believe the span would improve congestion issues at New Jersey Turnpike Exit 14C, as well as providing a direct link for motorists to the state park.

The hearing will be held Monday, June 22 from 5 to 8 p.m. at City Hall, 280 Grove St. Officials will be available to discuss the project informally from 5 to 6:30 p.m., with the official public hearing following a brief presentation on the plan.
