I believe most, if not all, are done using the "cold patch" technique which is the cheap and short term solution. My guess is that it's due to the aggressive street repaving program that will be implemented in the near future covering 75 streets in total.

This comes from a combination of State and City funds with the former covering 8 streets and the latter 67. City contract bids were due 3/24 followed by council vote (4/22?) and work starting in mid-May, fingers crossed.

Hopefully streets not scheduled to be repaved this year will get the "hot patch" treatment once it does get warmer.

Since the budget and plan for repaving streets this year was published months ago, doesn't it sort of make sense they do quick/cheaper fixes on hot spots, knowing that huge repaving projects are coming?

Honest question, not trying for snark...

I tend to stay away from making overly political comments in this board, but this administration has been a huge disappointment...

This pothole "news" and the recent BS nonsense of curtailing landlord's ability to rent their spaces, smacks of headline-grabbing politics.

Anyone could have predicted this pothole operation was going to be a sure-fire failure. In fact, several of us predicted as much months ago when it was first announced. They did the same as in years past, they just happen to have done a lot more of it. But, don't kid yourselves: these patches are nearly as bad as the actual potholes. Roads are just as uneven, with the added insult that money was spent. And, not only was money spent to NOT solve the problem of uneven, dangerous roads, but the roads will be back to their usual third world conditions in no time, as these patches always wear out and fail in little time. Talk about window dressing actions.

I know some people hate it when we compare ourselves to NYC and other boroughs, but I see entire roads in BK, Manhattan and even Queens that get ripped out, and resurfaced. That's a real solution to the pothole problem.

Whatever they are using to fill it up isn't working. It's like they were filled up with beach sand. The big giant one they filled up 2 week ago on the corner of Coles and Columbus is almost back to it's old state.

They filled the one in front of Crown Fried Chicken on Communipaw, and it's already breaking up . . .

Jersey City touts pothole repairs: over 7,500 filled in five weeks

By Terrence T. McDonald | The Jersey Journal The Jersey Journal
April 14, 2015 at  3:10 PM

JERSEY CITY -- Crews have filled over 7,500 potholes in the last five weeks, nearly five times the number they filled by mid-April last year, city officials announced today.

The city says it has filled the most potholes in Ward F, 2,120, followed by Ward A, 1,306; Ward C, 1,184; Ward E, 1,091; Ward D, 909; and Ward B, 958, for a total of 7,568. That compares to 1,625 potholes filled at this time last year, according to the city.

City officials say residents have notified the Resident Response Center about 630 potholes, and 597 of those have been filled. The rest will be tackled this week, if the weather holds up, they said.
