19% wouldn't be unreasonable if they scaled back the platinum healthcare plans, and converted teachers pensions to 401k plans.

These are the individuals who help sculpt the next generation of Americans. Why do they deserve less?

With a graduation rate of about 2/3 of students in JC (and I lay that on uninvolved parents and indifferent students mostly) it's a tough question. Why pay more when the results aren't going to change?

Pay increases should be designed to attract the best and the brightest into JC schools. And not reward failure. Smart people would rather have more money take-home, direct control over their pension, and choice of health plan - than have money indirectly siphoned out of their pockets to fund platinum healthcare for others and to bankroll insolvent public pensions.

We shouldn't simply reward the individuals who over the course of a generation have dropped the US from top of the world rankings in education to around 20th. Unless we're aiming for 40th spot for the next gen?

Doubtful, show your math. A current carrier is about $13B.

Holy shit. I thought your math must be really off but they actually cost this much.

Here is some untold information about Monica Kress who is running for the jcboe.
Monica Kress' Linked-in profile where it explicitly says she is founding director of the charter network, KIPP.
Why is your campaign downplaying your role as the CURRENT, founding director of the charter network, KIPP?
Why P4P is supporting a high-level charter school executive for a seat on our BOE -- especially when Sangeeta is blaming the payouts to charters schools as the reason why our teachers don't have contracts.
On her campaign website, she says ?Monica Kress is the Director of School Operations for a public elementary school, managing the school?s non-instructional staff and overseeing its day to day operations.?

How do you intend to attract good teachers without proper compensation?

Jersey City teachers union seeks 19% pay hike over 3 years, sources say

By Terrence T. McDonald | The Jersey Journal
September 29, 2014 at 6:48 PM

The Jersey City teachers union is seeking a nearly 19 percent pay hike over the next three years, according to sources familiar with the union's offer.

The increase would amount to $45 million over the course of the proposed new contract. The district spent about $246 million on teacher salaries this year.

Ron Greco, president of the Jersey City Education Association, which represents about 4,000 district teachers, is "playing a game," said one of the sources.

"He isn't thinking about the other bargaining units, the young teachers or the kids," the source said.
